Harper gets his way. GG prorogues Canadian parliament...

Governor General Michaelle Jean has accepted Prime Minister Stephen Harper's request to suspend Parliament until January, avoiding the imminent defeat of his minority government Monday.

Harper – his job on the line – spent about two hours at Rideau Hall talking with Jean.

The Governor General has already consulted with constitutional experts about her options.

The opposition coalition has told Jean that Harper no longer enjoys the confidence of the House of Commons and asked her to refuse prorogation.

Probably only delays the confidence vote until the end of January. Unless the conservatives produce something really conciliatory in their budget, I wouldn't be surprised to see the coalition vote against the budge when it's introduced.
