Michael Bloomberg: What is going to happen to him? Who Will Run Against Him?
He is seemingly getting the third term run against the NY constitution. So, who will run against him?

What is going to ultimately happen?

Can't stand him!

1. Has nothing to do with the NY Constitution...

...has to do with the NYC Charter which, whatever you think of the idea, can be changed by the Council. Elected officials should (but probably won't) he held accountable for their vote.

Most likely candidates at this point will be Congressman Anthony Wiener (Jewish), and City Comptroller William Thompson (Black). Most other prospective candidates will probably choose to stay in their current offices.

Personally, I'm not sure the Democrats could have won next year in any case. Democratic Party politics in the city has become so balkanized, with each candidate representing a particular ethnic/geographic/political subdivision, that it becomes very difficult for them to coalesce around the winner. The easy comment to make is that Bloomberg "bought" the 2001 election; the reality is that Marc Green and Freddy Ferrer couldn't patch up their differences after the Primary.

2. I would consider Bloomberg one of the 3 top contenders for the GOP
nomination in 2012.

In one possible scenario, Palin is knocked out early, placing 4th in Iowa. Romney and Huck bash each other to bits over the next month or two and Cool-Hand Mike prevails, investing heavily in advertising, local organization, and keen staff.

I'm not predicting this. Just laying out a possible scenario. I believe Bloomberg's ambitions are well beyond the mayor's office in New York.
