Manchester, NH names bridge after GOP senator up for re-election
Earlier tonight, the Manchester Board of Aldermen voted to name the recently rebuilt Granite Street bridge after Republican Senator Judd Gregg. Gregg has said that he will be seeking re-election in 2010.

Here's the worst part. The motion passed 13-1, with 10 out of 11 Democrats supporting it. I was the only vote in opposition.

Judd Gregg is not from Manchester; he lives in the wealthy town of Rye, about 45 miles away. His claim to the honor? His skill at bringing in federal funds to complete the bridge reconstruction project.

Could we name the bridge the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans Bridge? Nope. Could we name it after the former Democratic congressman who used to live in the neighborhood the new interchange serves? Nope.

I'm pissed, folks.

1. That's relatively common....
A lot of stuff in WV is named after Robert Byrd.....Anchorage's airport is named after Ted Stevens.....etc.

3. It still sucks
I can't stand Judd Gregg. He's a classic "born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple" kind of guy. His father was governor; when Judd turned 30, the GOP establishment pushed an Executive Councilor out of office so Judd could serve for two years before the NH-02 seat opened up. He uses his status as a senator to protect his alma mater's drug patents, at the expense of consumers. A millionaire, he won the lottery (about 800 grand) and kept the money.

When he was in the process of selling his house in Greenfield, the purchaser was diagnosed with cancer shortly before the closing. The woman wanted to pull out of the deal because her impending medical expenses made the home purchase too expensive. Gregg actually went to court to force her to go through with the sale.

He's a pampered, privilleged jerk.
