Ugh....David Gregory for MTP?
David Gregory to host 'Meet the Press': report
By John Letzing, MarketWatch

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- David Gregory, NBC's chief White House correspondent, will become the moderator of venerable political news show "Meet the Press," according to a report Monday in the Huffington Post that cited unnamed sources.

Longtime "Meet the Press" moderator Tim Russert died in June, and General Electric Co.'s NBC has yet to name a permanent successor. Retired news anchor Tom Brokaw has been filling in.

Gregory has been considered a front-runner for the job, alongside NBC reporter and commentator Andrea Mitchell, PBS editor and correspondent Gwen Ifill and NBC political analyst Chuck Todd, according to the report.

Brokaw will step away from the show this weekend, after he interviews President-elect Barack Obama, the report said.

"Meet the Press," which bills itself as "the longest-running program ever on network television," has been on the air for 61 years, and is known for setting the pace for the political news and interview shows broadcast on Sunday mornings.

Russert had served as moderator since 1991. He died at age 58 after suffering a heart attack at NBC's Washington, D.C. bureau.

5. Oh, come on
DG sold his soul to the dark side several years ago. Many, many, many Media Matters posts have proven that.

Gregory had his day challenging Snotty Scotty.

Since then, I don't know what he stands for, other than David Gregory.

6. Sitting next to DG at breakfast one morning...sheesh.
By coincidence I ended up staying at the main hotel for the AIPAC convention in DC this year. At breakfast, there was this guy I recognized interviewing some Israeli diplomat/lobbyist sitting at the next table. At the time, I couldn't put a name with the face but I recognized him. Later in the day it hit me...DG. Had to laugh because he spent almost as much time bitching at the waitress (about almost everything) as he did interviewing the guy. Coffee was cold, not the right jelly, where's the sweetener, blah blah blah. Had the waitress rolling her eyes every time he called her over. Every time I see him now on TV, I think of him as that petty snert at breakfast.

Hate to see the long legacy of MTP go down the tubes. As another poster said, they had a change to make a change for the future versus recommitting to "old school" journalism. Looks like they vote "Old School" (and I don't mean the Will Farrell type).

7. He sucks just about as bad as L'il Timmeh.
Actually, I think he is a logical replacement for Red State/Blue State Timmeh.

They are/were both assholes.

10. That's a shame. I was hoping for Gwen Ifill.
Or another woman (but not Andrea Mitchell). Oh well....

13. That means that MTP is gone forever.
I was hoping for a panel of reporters....

I don't see David Gregory as being heavyweight enough to carry this show. He sucks big time.

14. Lawrence Spivak is turning in his grave.
Another corporate, empty-suit GE tool dutifully earning his salary spouting official and semi-official neocon/corporate talking points while lobbing soft ones to Republican guests and slashing & burning Democrats.

Well, dancing with Karl was a good career move after all.
