Bill Clinton mentioned for wife's Senate seat
Snip>If that happened, Clinton would become the third former president to go from the White House to Capitol Hill.

President John Quincy Adams lost his re-election bid in 1828. Two years later he returned to Washington after winning election as a congressman from his home state of Massachusetts. He served in the House of Representatives until his death in 1848.

President Andrew Johnson also served as a Senator from Tennessee in 1875, 7 years after the Senate acquitted him of impeachment charges. He died a few months after taking office.

Bill Clinton would bring gravitas to the job, and he obviously knows his way around Washington.<Snip

10. Mentioned by whom? Himself?
I'd rather have Chelsea but she's not old enough.

11. Someone had an opinion in the Washington Post this is not news
but once again a Clinton worship fest and is even disingenuous in the OP
about what was said in the article and took it out of context.

21. Hillary and Bill are God!
But you were dishonest with your OP title
as are false religions.

22. It wasn't my title.
It was the title that CNN used.

And no...they aren't G-D.

2. Be careful not to step on the exploded heads at DU.
There are numerous choices for Patterson to consider. One, do we want someone who will be senator for the rest of his life, or one who will use it as a stepping stone to higher office?

Also, can Bill afford the drastic cut in income? I think not.

15. One thing to remember...
Like in Delaware this is a appointment until the special election in 2010. Which is then followed by the 2012 scheduled election for that seat.

A place holder Senator might be a good choice for Gov. Paterson.

H. Carl McCall
Bill Clinton
heck Elliot Spitzer, might get him out of the dog house a little.

or another politician who won't run in the 2010 primary.

An appointment like this one can be a double edged sword for a politician.

19. Right, I think a place holder - rather than giving any one person the edge is how he'll go.
Caroline K's name isn't coming up any more.

5. It has no substance please add this to your OP
'In an op-ed column last week in The Washington Post, journalists Karl Meyer and Shareen Blair Brysac urged Paterson to "send Bill Clinton to the Senate."

Its an opinion

6. I'd support Bill in the Senate
Just to see how many Republicans see him walk in with a smile and think "Oh s***, now what do we do?"

9. I do not think President Clinton would take it.
It would be too much a demotion from being called President Clinton to Senator Clinton. Just can't see him accepting this if it were offered.

14. I would love to see Bill
as Senator from New York.

There is precedent for former presidents to serve in that capacity and while he is more centrist/DLC than I ever liked, compared to the right-wingers who have been serving as the Shrub's minions in the Senate in recent year, Bill is well nigh Eugene Debs.

16. I don't see it happening
Even if BC wants it, Americans are getting tired of political dynasties.

Oh, and there's that minor detail of Bill Clinton being a political lightning rod in a close Senate balance.

Forget it.
