How can we start a secret santa/giving tree type thing on DU?

I'm thinking there many people on DU with needs this Holiday season, I think it would be really cool to find a way for people who would like to help out to give to the people who really need it. I just don't know how it would work. No one wants to give their address out to everyone, maybe we could make a list and then another DU could 'adopt' the person and send them a gift?

We collectively gave over $100,000 to Obama! Imagine what we could do to help each other!!!

Anyone with ideas how this could work?

1. We have a food bank drive and help DUers on a case by case basis.

I for one do not need any more "stuff".

2. I meant for people who actually need things

This economy stinks and there are many people really hurting out there.

I think it's a great idea.

Someone would have to be in charge of the money.

How would we decide who needs help?

Maybe we could have a list of requests and individuals can choose who to give to(contact that person for an address) according to what is affordable.
