aWol officially hits rock bottom
For the past five or six years, my parents had given George & Laura a place of honor on their Amana refrigerator. Color 8 x 10 glossies of the first couple were festooned on the fridge door along with "personal" messages thanking my parents for their generous donations to the RNC.

Whenever aWol would slip another notch or two in popularity, friends would speculate whether or not this would be his lowest point. My parents' fridge door was my gauge. There was room to fall while the Shrubs still adorned these diehards' kitchen appliance.

Over Thanksgiving, I noticed something very strange about my parents' kitchen. I couldn't quite place it. Then I realized...photos of the grandchildren and the dog have returned to their rightful place of honor! George & Laura were gone at last!

As we held hands to state what we were most thankful on Thursday, I lied. ;)

2. Yup!
They were (are?) hard core. No telling how much they've contributed to receive the coveted 8 x 10 color thank-you's over the years. I was tempted to peek in their checkbook but was afraid I'd be too depressed.

They're also on the Shrubs' Christmas card list, although I don't think that's an exclusive club.

4. I'm going to hell
I told my daughter that the Washington Times was owned and managed by the Moonies. I told her I'd give her $5 if she'd ask my mom why she has a subscription to a Moonie-owned paper. My parents never come down hard on the grandchildren...

SCORE!

My mom exclaimed, "What?" My daughter shared a few compelling details I told her, then added: "Sort of spooky, isn't it?" My mom sat there...stunned.

The best $5 I've ever spent.

5. We'll be looking for you at the Brimstone Beach Volleyball facility
...because as far as I can tell, we've all pretty much been consigned to Perdition. Might as well make the best of it.

6. I love this!
I'm smiling and giggling at four friggin' thirty in the morning (off to work the early shift soon).
The dog and the cherished kids are back on the fridge!
Pictures of grinning cherubs saying, I love you Grandma, replace the criminal Smirk-In-Chief.
One Grandparent at a time all across the country.
Refrigerators have been liberated.

8. A right-wing aunt & uncle of mine had an 8x10 of Oliver North & family on their fridge in the '90s.
Dr. D. (my wife) and I were on a rare visit there (in Alabama) in about 1992, and Dr. D. spotted the photo on the fridge door. Out of context, Dr. D. did not recognize the family as North's (and I had not yet noticed the photo). Dr. D. asked my crazy aunt which cousins (of the many, many, many ..) these were. My aunt's voice went low and reverential. "Oooh," she sighed, "That's not family! That is the fine Christian and national hero Oliver North and his beautiful wife and children."

Jeebus. That picture of the felon North & family would put a buzzard off it's feed!

9. The 8 x 10 glossy on the fridge must be...
...a Republican thing?

None of my liberal friends have photos of Dem leaders on their fridges, but then, it's been a while since we've had someone in the White House.

11. I'm one of those Latte Liberals
who has a stainless steel fridge.. magnets don't work on those - so no pics of any celebs, politicians, etc. Just a few fingerprints from my 3 year old. :)

13. When I was house-hunting in 2003, I looked at a house in Brevard, NC ..
On the fridge was a copy of a picture of the couple that owned the house and President Bill Clinton, taken in the White House! I knew it was the home owners because the real estate agent knew them. I guess they wanted to scare off right-wingers from buying the house. I loved the pic .. but the price of the house scared me off!

12. I wonder...
...if my folks would like a 2'x3' Obama "Hope" poster? That would cover the entire fridge door.

14. George & Laura may have been gone on Thanksgiving, but...
...their legacy lived on. My mom spent much of the meal exclaiming why global warming was a hoax, using references of FOX, Rush and the Moonie Times.
