Breaking News: Terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India
Multiple attacks.

On MSNBC right now. So far, four confirmed dead. But the reporting is cautious.

7. ...
:yourock:

Also, "Mumbai" sounds too much like "Mumble", and most people calling a company's support line tend to hear "mumble" in return... so for any number of reasons, "Bombay" is so much more regal, and romantic.

9. Of course
If a Cessna with a broken landing gear has to circle the airport for two hours before an "emergency" landing, MSNBC will break to that like they did all day yesterday.

12. Horrible. But I have a question....
Why are they (Mitchell et al) so quick to blame AQ? Has AQ claimed responsibility yet?

13. They call Peter Bergen who says: "This has all the 'hallmarks' of an al Qaeda attack."
Or something like that. You know, hard-hitting investigative journalism.

15. so how would it be different if it was some other group that did it
what about it makes it an Al Qaeda attack ?

21. Well, I was kidding....sort of. But, seriously, they do say that, and it has to do with
the methods used.

For instance, an AQ attack looks very different than an attack from Shining Path, for example, or a rag-tag group of anti-government rebels from some obscure part of India. Everything from selected targets, weapons used, timing of multiple attacks, etc. There are only so many groups that can pull of this sort of thing.

Now, I don't mean to try to sound like an expert. I'm only repeating what I've heard them discuss during previous attacks.

18. Yea - keeping tossing out those personal opinions like they are pure facts
combine that with our own subway TERRA warning and woowhee we'll really scare the bejeezus out of the populace.

Terrible reporting on his part, jmho though.

14. They said that AQ will do multiple attacks and there were 7 attacks in Mumbai
But Andrea Mitchell just said that no one has claimed responsibility.

22. I'm just relaying what's being said
Thanks for your reply. Can you please give us some examples so I can learn something? I'm sure you're right - it only stands to reason. And the press jumping to conclusions never helps.

I'm really worried about this situation and hope it doesn't spark even larger border clashes or worse with Pakistan.

23. scroll down to the time line
you will see that just this year there were many terrorist attacks including in multiple places. someone above said these attacks were a bit more sophisticated which points to al qaeda so i guess that could be the difference. that some lower level group would not be able to pull this off.
