Police: Wife shot and killed at New Jersey church

<snip>
Rowan said James had recently moved from California to New Jersey to escape an abusive marriage and had filed a restraining order against Pallipurath.

From the fact that the shooting took place in a church, I'm assuming that this couple was actually married and not simply civilly unioned in a non-religious legal way. It is true that some heterosex marriages are a threat to the sanctity of life, and that they are deeply damaging to children. (The article discusses crying children and so forth.) However, I think its important for us to remember that this is no reflection on the vast majority of heterosex married couples who love one another as much as civilly-unionized heterosex spouses or civilly-unionized same-sex couples.

I, for one, will stand by my married heterosex friends over any political fallout from this incident. I know the straight community must be very upset by this. I'm really pissed off at this guy because I'm afraid now people are going to think ill of married, religious heterosexuals.

(And on a less sarcastic note, a moment of silence for this woman and these kids.)

1. Same here.
Nothing like this ever happened to my 18 aunts and uncles, or many cousins, who have been married, too many years to count.

I won't talk about me, though: still workin' on it.

2. It is funny when you think about it abstractly - funny in a tragicomic way....
The ones who are oh-so-concerned about marriage's sanctity are precisely those people who have made an utter mockery out of marriage.

The perks of being the fox guarding the henhouse are great indeed.

3. There are people working very hard
to ensure that gun rights are maintained in this sort of situation. It should take more than a restraining order for a person to lose his God given freedoms.
