After all, he does have a socially liberal voting record. As a Progressive, I accept the utility of occasionally putting on a Centrist face.
But as years went on, and Bush's outrages piled up, Lieberman would make a sick habit of undercutting Democrats and their positions on vital Foreign Policy issues.
And it's not about being a dogmatic Democrat. It was about posing SOME sort of opposition to NeoCons.
So somewhere around 2004, I stopped sticking up for Lieberman. Getting labeled a "DLC'er" never bothered me cause the way it's used on DU, it sounds so much like "poopie-head".
After hearing Joe got to keep his Chair today, I just had a brief, momentary dark thought totally uncharacteristic for me.
IMO, this was a very bad move. Nothing Joe can contribute is worth having him in that Chair. And it's a certainty he will undercut Democrats and Obama in the future. Even if it's some off-the-record quote or anonymous info he gives to the Press. Or Republicans.
Before closing this, I also want to express my remorse for sticking up for Harry Reid and the Senate. So often, I've given he and his "leadership" a pass. I started and lead a local woman's group, and even in that little world, politics becomes a tricky business where you have to do stuff you don't like.
I won't say a word backing up Reid's cave ins and incompetence ever again.
They really do live in a hideously elite bubble. They really are beholden to corporate interests above all else. They really are unwilling to play hard ball. And I want to rant about a group representing a foreign version of the NeoCons but that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.
In short I take back every word said defending Lieberman and his sorry traitorous ass.
