Lieberman cannot simply be removed by the Dems at their whim if he doesn't do what they want!!

"It takes a Senate resolution to change a chairmanship, and that resolution could be subject to a filibuster," Paone told the Huffington Post. Put simply, under Bayh's proposed scenario, Republicans would have every reason to filibuster a new Senate resolution taking Lieberman's chairmanship away if he was proving an effective antagonist of President Obama.

Paone noted that a similar game of political chess played out in the Senate's recent history. "We had a similar situation in the past with a Republican moderate senator, Mark Hatfield from Oregon, who voted the wrong way in the eyes of Santorum and others on the constitutional amendment on a balanced budget," Paone said. "There were rumblings they wanted to take his chairmanship away. But the ranking member on the committee was Sen. Robert Byrd, who wrote Hatfield a nice note saying, 'if they ever try to take your chairmanship away, I'll make sure we will filibuster such a resolution."

This was not a good idea unless there is some control on Joe that nobody seems to have yet.

1. Well, maybe they could not remove him now.
Because of the numbers.

But when the Dems have more numbers, then maybe it could be done.

2. Only if they can break the filibuster.
That would require the 3 senate seats yet to be decided to be DEM AND
Lieberman's vote. That would give them 60, but I don't think Lieberman
would help.:hi:

4. Yabbut
They could try. At least trying to get rid of such a devious person to head an important committee would show the voters who supported them that they are trying. I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe they are trying to change the status quo.

Don't forget. Lieberman didn't just support McCain. He didn't just 'do something Democrats didn't like'. He attacked and lied about the Democratic candidate. He went to the Republican convention and spoke. No, it wasn't just a difference of opinion. It was a betrayal.

So this is how our Senators support truth, justice and honesty. I was afraid so.

3. I'm Not Sure The Author Is Correct. Each Congress Sets Their Rules, And That Rule Can Be Changed.
I'm not certain, but I don't believe those rules as they relate to chairmanships are hard coded.

5. Whether the chair is a D or an R...
...is established by the Rule, as is the number of each on the committee, but not who the chair is.

That's up to the caucus, plain and simple.

6. Thanks - this needs to be spread on many threads
This would have been a nightmare on many levels - losing the first fibuster effort, and getting the bad press that would come of it with the Republicans trying to spin it as intolerance.
