Who's betting that Bill Clinton's financial dealings
disqualify Hillary. I swear Obama is the smartest politician in generations.

3. More Rope-A-Dope
I still don't see the upside of Hillary being a subordinate when there's a lot she can accomplish in the Senate. If anything, I see her political capital far greater there in helping push an Obama agenda than being restricted to one portfolio or another.

Methinks President Obama is cleverly playing the corporate media with one of their favorite toys...letting them speculate while he and his team do what they really think is needed. It doesn't take much for the corporate media to obsess about the Clintons...most owe their big paychecks to their obsessions...and this is just creating a purposeful distraction to take the pressure and attention off the transition team.

6. Neither do I but I don't think Bill would want to be vetted
That said, those suckers are desperate for any 'inside' story and it would be great karma if Dems sold Andrea Mitchell a bigger lemon that she married. :hi:

9. So Do We Vet All Spouses?
If Hillary is selected, what's Bill's connection have to do with it? If we start that game we'll be opening a lot of closets. And, as has been said here more times that I can count...haven't we been "vetting" the Clintons for the past 20 years? If we don't know them now, we never will.

Cheers...

11. Based on whaqt I heard and read, the transition team has the
most detailed vetting I've seen to date. Bill hasn't been vetted since 2000.

16. There's "Vetting"...and then there's "Vetting"
You know a simple background check wouldn't do for the corporate media. Many there pine for the golden age of the Clenis. Already Faux dragged out the old memes...hoping for a chance to milk 'em again.

If this is the standard, right now I'd like a nice vetting of Mrs. Normie Coleman...and I have 75,000 reasons to think it's more important than if Bill's been shtooping the "help".

8. I Think She Knows It Too
She'll be much being heat as the senator from a huge state, with massive name recognition in a dem dominated Senate.

It's in her best interest to stay right where she is.

18. Hi Malaise
Not saying she's in on anything. I'm saying that she would turn it down even if asked, but since Obama doesn't want to tip his hand beyond this point, he can have Kissinger, Kristol, and Kyl (notice how that's 3 K's) can puke on themselves and then be completely wrong.

Could be subtle way of marginalizing them.

12. I See Her Headed For The SCOTUS
Greetings Prof...

We're sure to see a vacancy soon and if there's one gig that's valued just as much, if not more, than President, it's sitting on the bench. By staying in the Senate, Hillary greases her way to an easy confirmation as being part of the "club". It also removes both Clintons from the future rough and tumbles...and methinks that may also be playing in the back of President Obama's head.

26. When's the last time someone went from Senator to SCOTUS?
What's her legal background other than corporate law for WalMart? What SCOTUS appointees in the past hundred years have not 1)been a judge, or 2) been a law professor, or 3) amassed a HUGE portfolio of legal writings?

What on EARTH makes her qualified for SCOTUS?

28. Pure Politics
The question isn't if I want her on the court, just if she were to take another role other than Senator, which would appeal to her.

I do not attempt to go into her qualifications, but then dare I mention Harriet Meiers as far as how the court can be politicized (thank goodness she never got on the court, but the fact she was even nominated shows how this system can be politicized).

For a pure craven political move, something I don't see a President Obama doing, this is good chum to throw in the water...just as much as proposing she take a cabinet post.

Cheers...

Given the details about the vetting process, that may just have been assumed by the talking heads.

23. It has been reported that the vetting is looking at Bill's finances.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7880765&mesg_id=7880765

LAWYERS for Barack Obama's transition team have begun vetting the business and philanthropic interests of former US president Bill Clinton as the President-elect considers whether to appoint his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, as secretary of state.

The move is being viewed as a sign that Senator Clinton is being seriously considered for the position.

But Mr Clinton's finances and activities could pose a conflict of interest. He has refused to disclose — and is not legally required to — the donors who funded his presidential library and his charitable foundation.

Who paid him how much, and how are their interests affected by US foreign policy? Would Hillary have to recuse herself from dealing with certain issues or countries?

27. Well, think back a few years ago - Bill sided with Dubai getting our ports from Bush. He recently

banked 20 million from that same Dubai source through his Yucaipa dealings.

Interestingly, the same Dubai sources were also protected throughout the 90s when BCCI's outstanding matters were stonewalled by the Bush administration and then deep-sixed by Clinton in the years after the release of the report.

Dubai royals had staked a giant share of BCCI, which quickly became the world's largest terrorist bank.
