Poll question: Is war some kind of tea party?
Please compare the two images from this past Veterans' Day (November 11, 2008):

Image #1

Image #2

They are both staged to a certain extent, but differ in one very important way: the demeanor of the subjects.

Which of the images above says war is not a fucking game?

1. The Navy officer in picture 1 looks really uncomfortable.

3. In the original caption, he was called Bush's "naval attendant."
So, yeah, I'd say he's very uncomfortable.

5. Looks like W just made an inappropriate joke, or said something awkward,
and the officer looks slightly embarrassed.

8. Why do you care, any of you? So many posts go by about this
travesty that are unattended.

Would a picture of an injury help?

Yes, they do. I'm just annoyed about the concern when it's just words. And how far away we are to where we were 4 years ago.

10. I think a picture of an injury would help.
I think a picture would help the millions of Americans who've been anesthetized from Iraq.

Don't forget it is the GOP's official policy to deny how bad their Iraqi adventure is going. No photos from Dover, no real nightly news coverage, very little acknowledgment of the injuries all the while the VA gets gutted.

They wouldn't be preventing the press from covering the events on the ground if they didn't think pictures would influence people.

Yes, many threads are neglected in favor of the latest distraction, but the ones I've seen are in forums that get little traffic.

15. I agree. We need to have some kind of prominent reminder on every page.
Like an icon/link to http://icasualties.org/oif/">iCasualties or something.

Or maybe a link to the Washington Post's http://projects.washingtonpost.com/fallen/">"Faces of the Fallen"?

9. Why does * always look like a life-sized cardboard cut-out?
Maybe it's cuz he is so damned one-dimensional.

And, to answer your post, war is no kinda party. Those pictures are worth 2,000 words.

12. War is not a game. That's true. It's a racket. War is a racket.
As Gen. Smedley Butler once said, "Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

17. Those photos say it all.
One is about about vets.

One is about Bush and his cronies.
