Just Occured To Me: This Has Been Our Year. Proposition 8 Won't Be Enacted.
First of all, there are so many remaining votes left that who knows if it even really passed or not.

But besides that, for some reason I have a really good vibe about the Supreme Court. I don't think it's gonna stand.

I think in a very short time, we will all be celebrating a victory here yet again and all the arguments of the past few weeks will be put aside for another huge group hug.

I have faith in that, and I hope to see it come to fruition soon.

1. All fine and good but that doesn't change the fact that
so many people voted for it in the first place. Isn't that really the problem, the intolerance? Would a court decision change that?

2. As a gay guy, I care so much less about their attitudes than I do my rights that
I just don't care.

8. Full tolerance comes after the courts force people to respect the law.
There wasn't full tolerance for any other group that got their civil rights, that comes later.
The fact is though, there are more people who support GBLT civil rights than ever before, and there will be more on board every year.
Even with all that there will remain some die hard haters... as there are for all other minorities-- but fuck them, they will be a dying breed.

10. 70% of the country disapproved of interracial marriages in '67 when SCOTUS issued Loving V Virginia
that is the rightful job of the courts - LEAD the country if necessary.

Same sex marriage today is LESS controversial than interracial marriage was when Loving outlawed all miscegenation laws.

3. Honestly, I wish I shared your optimism.
I think the GLBT community and their true friends in the straight community (I consider myself on of the second group) are in for a long fight.

6. The cards don't have memories, despite what many gamblers will tell you.
Hot streaks and cold streaks only exist in retrospect.

11. i don't know if i have the same optimism as you but i really feel like
the TIME IS NOW -- we/this country is waking up to a new dawn, a new day and equal rights/civil rights are part of this wake-up call. the people in this country have made some really good steps lately and i don't think they want to go backward. we need to move forward and equal rights in the marriage department is a forward move.
