I'm going to speculate something kind about George Bush
Yeah .... me.

I know, I know ......

Hear me out.

It has been said that Bush was genuinely pleased to see a black man win the presidency. It has been said that Bush isn't a man imbued with much in the way of prejudices. Bush has demonstrably put people of color in positions of high power.

I'm going to speculate that George Bush, in this specific regard, is as he seems to be.

Am I mistaken?

2. That one thing seems true of him.
I don't think the Bushes in general are particularly racist. Jeb, after all, is married to a latina.

7. I assume Barbara's comment was about social class, not race.
You know, the useless eaters.

12. GHWB took some brave stands against racism both
in his personal life and in his political career. He voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and took enormous heat from his constituents in TX for it. He actively tried to create a bridge between minorities and Repubs in the south, not too successfully. But I think on the issue of racism, the Bushes are on the right side. I'm sure GWB must have picked up on this from his dad.

16. 1964 Civil Rights Act
I thought GHWB campaigned *against* the 1964 Civil Rights Act and lost the election. He was elected to Congress in 1966.

3. If so- then I would say thay even a broken watch is right twice a day.
Whether Bush truly wanted minorities on equal footing or not would depend more on his over-all political record, not just his token appointments.

Let's also consider his record on healthcare, education, voter supression, and how many minorities he sent off to Iraq for staters.

8. That is correct.
There is sometimes the appearance of racism among the moneyed classes but for the most part this is because of the confounding of wealth and race in our society. Ultra-rich blacks, Arabs, and Europeans are more like each other than they are like the ethnic groups from which they derive.

17. Not just blacks. Poor people. He's a classist, not a racist.

If you're white and poor, you're as far beneath his notice as if you 're black and poor.

14. "it isn't enough for me to succeed, my friends have to fail"-- george bush
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 09:17 PM by pitohui
you have indeed completely misread him, and be thankful for your lack of experience of the sociopathic mind

he doesn't give a fuck that a black man won the presidency, what excites his little boner is that mccain was denied the presidency by a black man

he's a very bitter man that mccain told him to stay away from the campaign and that mccain was able to use the excuse of hurricane gustav to quietly "discourage" the pretzeldent and cheney from attending their own republican national convention

of course he now hates mccain and is glad mccain has been stomped by a landslide, that is nothing to do w. respect for the fight aga. racism and everything to do with "nah nah thought you didn't need me, huh, well fuck you dude"
