So is there ANY reason to keep Lieberman?
Honestly. When it was 49, 50, 51 I could see it. And if it was the difference between 59, 60, 61 or a fillibuster proof margin I could see it.

But I would think that 56 or 57 Dem seats is the worst number for him. In that case we don't need him for a simple majority, and he's not getting us a fillibuster proof majority. So what do we lose by him stomping his feet and not voting with us (which he won't any way).

Seriously, someone explain the electoral math on this one.

1. Keep him! We need him (he usually votes Dem)......he is a "one issue Republican"
i.e., the Iraq War. He is a bit radical about that, because he is an orthodox Jew practically.

3. The Dem caucus doesn't need to make that decision until January
by then all the recounting will be done. If they can't reach 60 at that point with him, there will be huge pressure to throw his ass out of the caucus. Blackmailers aren't really anyone's buddies.

7. Set him free...free from the "D."
It's apparently what he wants, isn't it (judging from his actions)? Now, we all love him, don't we? Perhaps "Sting" said it best, in the 1980's song, if you love someone, set them free! Free, free, set them free!

9. His Vote Won't Matter Often...If At All
I agree with you...but I'll got a step further and say even if he were the 60th vote, it doesn't mean he'd always vote against us. He'll be with us on many social issues. The pressure should, and I hope, will be on the GOOP to keep their bloc together. I see a lot of vultnerable moderates like Snowe, Voinovich...even Specter...all up in '10 who will be swung over to get over the 60.

Traitorman will sit alone...very alone...
