Apparently Rachel Maddow said Alaska's governor could appoint Stevens' replacement.

Please help her (and everyone else who missed your earlier posts) about this issue!

Thank you!

3. From what I understand, the replacement is temporary...
...until another election can be held.

5. How does Alaska choose a Replacement US Senator if a sitting Senator is unable to continue in office

Alaska's Division of Elections said that if Senator Stevens were to win the upcoming election and then resign his seat, it would force a special election and the governor would make a temporary appointment to hold the seat until a new senator is elected;
however, proponents of a citizen initiative passed in 2004 said that measure stripped the governor of the right to make Senate appointments. The initiative was passed after then Gov. Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter Lisa to the Senate seat he vacated to become governor.

6. I would have thought Rachel would know better.
I'm still waiting for an answer to the last e-mail I sent her. Didn't she say they read them all?
