Trinidad and Tobago church leaders want to ban Elton John; he may "bring the gay" to the island
Church leaders in Tobago want Sir Elton John banned from headlining a music festival on the Caribbean island amid fears he will turn locals gay. The openly homosexual singer is due to perform at the Plymouth Jazz Festival in April (07), but his visit has been condemned by religious groups over his sexual orientation.

Philip Isaac, archdeacon of Trinidad and Tobago, says, "His visit to the island can open the country to be tempted towards pursuing his lifestyle."

Isaac also criticised John's marriage to long-term partner David Furnish, citing the union as not conforming to religious teachings because "a man should not lie with a man", but adds the Rocket Man singer could be saved by God, despite his homosexuality. He explains, "The artist is one of God's children and while his lifestyle is questionable, he needs to be ministered onto."

But festival organiser Anthony Maharaj has spoken out in support of John, and says, "We should be honoured to have him. This is a man who was knighted by the queen, who was highly complimented by (Former South African archbishop) Desmond Tutu."

4. As far as I know, those are all straight guys.
Straight guys in drag -- who'd a thunk? This is one of the many faces of gay in 2007:

6. Um, it was a joke.
See, I was trying to pretend like I was one of those ignorant asshats who is afraid of the spread of The Gay and those people would point to people in drag and call them gay.

Clearly didn't hit I guess.

3. I guess that unlike the rest of the world there are no gay
people born in these places. No Homosexual animals either. Truly amazing.

7. Unfortunately the Caribbean seems to lag in GLBT tolerance.
May that change, as it is a beautiful part of the planet.
