2. Cindy has nothing to gain by backing him
every step of the way either. I don't get it. She has a life of her own, money, children - what the hell does he have to offer her? They usually look like complete strangers when they appear in public.

4. She's milked the "senator's wife" thing for a long time
It gives her a patina of respectability...better than "beer heiress"

6. I suppose
but she hates DC and they've lead pretty much separate lives for most of their marriage. She went through childbirth and miscarriages alone. What a great husband! I'm amazed she didn't dump him long ago.

5. My mother has noticed that they really do their best to ignore each other
Mom recently commented on the difference between how the McCains and Obamas interact with each other and you can guess which couple she is more impressed with. She also noticed that, when she saw the McCain's walking down what appeared to be kind of steep steps, he did not turn to offer her his hand and aid her descent. The old one says she would expect more from someone who is supposedly an "officer & a gentleman". The Old One thought this was very telling. (The Old One is 84 and says McCain is too old be president)

9. When they first started campaigning together,
you couldn't tell they were even related. He never looked at her, never acknowledged her presence, never touched her, etc. For a guy who's been politics for decades, he sure doesn't know the basics.

Now they "touch", but it is stilted and rigid, as if it is very uncomfortable and doesn't come easily. Other than that he rarely acknowledges her - what a piss-poor husband!

12. She can probably already have him
McCain was hardly ever at home and Cindy rarely spent time in DC. I think their lives were very separate for a long time.

Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 05:50 PM by tsegat01
There was an excellent article about McCain's mental health posted yesterday. Very plausible and frightening.

Edit to add link: http://www.amconmag.com/article/2008/oct/20/00014//

This alone should disqualify him for ANY public office.
