I heard back from my friend & she's going to vote for McCain.

:eyes:

Oh well, I tried. The email I sent her is here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4337547

She responded by sending this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081030/ap_on_el_ge/fact_check_obama_ad

She basically stated that all politicians are the same & neither will be able to do anything since we are so in debt, so she's going to go with the candidate that she feels will help her family the most - McCain. ~sigh.

I would like to respond with "I hope he doesn't start more wars & draft your children," or "I hope your daughter doesn't get pregnant & ever need/want an abortion," but what the fuck. I don't think there is any way to reach her. She is gripped by tax fear.

I am a little pissed at one of her friends, though, who was included on the email my friend sent me. Her friend sent her response to everyone. Here it is:

"Hmmm, let's see....government subsized health care....sounds a little like welfare entitlement to me and we all know too well how that has been managed. More free benefits for the permanently unemployed and that helps us how?"

I would love to respond, but not sure if it's worth my time. I don't even know this woman. Why do people hit "Reply All" when there are people on the list they don't know? What a thoughtless bitch. And she should learn to use spell check, too. :eyes:

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I'm in a funk, now. I'm going to work out & hopefully feel better later!

Thanks for all your responses to my earilier thread. I'd go crazy if it weren't for DU!

2. That is ALWAYS their excuse - "They're all the same anyway"
I can't tell you how many "independents" have said this to either my husband or myself. My husband always responds by saying, "you aren't an independent, you're a republican, because this is a no brainer and republicans are well known for their lack of reasoning skills."

more towards lack of general and functional knowledge of government and how it works. Many people I have talked with are under the impression that when Obama or McCain gets elected, their policies automatically get put into effect. In my estimates, over a 1/3rd of the population doesn't know what the Legislative branch does, nor how a majority affects policy. Even if McCain somehow steals the election, none of his half-baked plans will be passed by our majority congress. A vote for McCain, among other things, would be a vote for another deadlock on democracy, allowing issues like entitlement reform, education, alternative energy, and respectable tax relief for the middle class (the basis of all democratic societies, as Aristotle himself one said) to go by the wayside. McCains plan, while addressing some of these things, barely scratches the surface on even tax relief and education. He has completely ignored entitlement reforms, from what I can hear, and his justification for giving MORE huge tax breaks to the rich is that he can put a "spending freeze" on all programs (except entitlements, defense, veteran affairs, homeland security, and of course special needs funding!). The big cuts I see out of that go squarely through Education and scientific research grants. Bravo

5. That stupid argument makes me crazy
RepubliKKKlanz always want to blame Clinton for everything. But, when one of their own gets caught, then the story is changed to "They all do it".

10. If she is really a friend, let it go.
At least she respected your opinion enough to ask. I have a number of republican friends. One vote in one election isn't worth injuring the relationship over.
