Just what we need. "GodMen", macho Christianity "where faith gets DANGEROUS!"
There is a new trend in religion: macho Christianity — a movement started by men who say traditional church services are just too feminine and sissy.

Nationwide less than four in 10 churchgoers are men, and the men in this movement say it's because men need a religious outlet that's more masculine.

In a rented space in a Tennessee shopping mall, masculine religion is championed by GodMen, a group that conducts daylong sessions of stunts and speeches. The sessions, according to GodMen's founder, comic Brad Stine, are intended to toughen up Christian men.

"It's about men stepping up and being strong again," Stine said.

Men need movements like GodMen because Christians have been taught about a Jesus who's too nice to be real, said life coach and Christian radio show host Paul Coughlin. The leaders of GodMen contend that church, as most men know it, has gotten too sissy.

"A meek and mild Jesus… eventually is a bore," he said.

:D

Maybe the "feminine," nurturing Christians, who love Jesus and world peace, will eventually drive out or convert the war-lovin', macho x-tians?

47. that was a Rbt. Duvall film....and quite good...
...Duvall said films had never portrayed simple rural southern preachers like he'd grown up around accurately, so he made that film. He said he had a lot of respect for preachers like that....and if you see the film, you become aware of his respect.

7. What are these men looking for even turning up for such things?
I can not understand why so many people are worried about if they fit into some type of a sex roll that they will do the most silly things to prove what sex they are. It has to be like women who are always making something bigger to be more like a women. I frankly do not understand all this thinking. I must have missed something growing up.

16. It comes out of the belief that men have been feminized by liberals and homosexuals.
Just ask Ann Coulter. She knows all about it :eyes:

I like being a guy and doing guy things, but I also like some traditionally non-male activities such as cooking. I don't care for organized sports worth a hilt but I do enjoy hiking, fishing, boating, camping, etc. I do the dishes, but I also like woodworking and refinishing furniture.

Does that make me a sissy feminine male? They'd probably say, "Man, you don't go washing dishes and cooking! You git yaw woman to do that kind'a womans work, and you get yaw ass out in the yard and cut the grass, or work on yaw car, or watch the game on the TV and have yaw little woman git yaw some brewskis like she's supposed to. A womans place is in the home dontcha know! Now wise up and tell her what's what, you're a man and you ain't gonna do her womans work for her anymore."

24. Best cooks have always been men and who do you think made
all that lovely furniture that has been around for 100's of years. This business is just to silly for words and so far I have not got any of my children to play it. I can recall my sister thinking it was nuts to wear a skirt to school in mid-winter in Maine so went right to the school board and got a slip to wear slacks. In my days girls had to dress right to go to school. She did the same thing when she wanted to take shop in high school. We all fit into the times we were born to a point. On the whole the family has not got into the swing of this crazy stuff and I am so glad. I have never worried about being a women, I am one, and it is just a fact. My male family seem to think they same about being male. We all do the jobs we like and to heck if they are to go to one sex or not. I wonder how the Church people got into this stuff?

**They'd probably say, "Man, you don't go washing dishes and cooking!**

Except BBQ, chili and stew. It's OK for men to cook those...or any cooking on the grill...fine masculine activities and you can clean your gun at the same time.

30. Reaction to the "Sensitive '80s Male"
I honestly don't know who promoted that piece of work the most, but I suspect it was either the media or some guy who wanted to promote himself to get laid by "intellectual" women.

From the mid/late 1970s, throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, there was a lot of male-bashing in our media, and it was something men were (unlike women who've heard it for ages) completely unaccustomed to. The Sensitive '80s Male was a bit of a defense/response to that, and it was one of the worst things anyone could ever perpetrated on 49% of Americans.

John Bly got laughed at, but he had a good point to make.

Now the pendulum is swinging back. Some guys have no problems being guys and enjoying being guys, others are uptight. They need more assistance, those ones.

9. Oh, bull.
Yet another fundie splinter sect. I don't see this one catching on, thankfully.

Those idiots need to go read the New Testament. The whole point of Christianity was supposed to be peace and love. Unfortunately, human nature being what it is, organized religion had its usual detrimental (to put it very mildly) and corrupting effect on something that could have brought enlightenment and peace.

so that they'll believe they are "godly" when they see their manhood in the mirror.

Sounds to me like they missed the boat on this one. I don't know any heterosupremacist men who need to tithe to some speak-to-the-sky ministry in order to worship their own peepee.
