1. No harm done, huh?
She just tried to alter the outcome of an election by starting a race war. No biggie.

4. She's not all there in the head
If someone wants to beat me up about this then go ahead and I'm sorry.

Todd belongs in a psychiatric hospital, she NEEDS professional help.

11. Look.
I'm not right in the head. I've had plenty of experience with even bigger loonies. This was something else. What she did was extremely dangerous to others. I wonder where we'd be today if Nixon had been prosecuted and jailed. At some point, we have to start holding people responsible for their actions. Even poor little misguided girls.

2. As I've just mentioned on another thread, I think she has mental health issues
She really ought to be sent to a psychiatric unit, she carved up her OWN face, she's not playing with a full deck.

13. She SCRATCHED up her own face.
As soon as I saw her face, I thought to myself: That's the face of someone who wanted to mar themself in the least painful way possible. She obviously wanted to sway the election by making up a story of a big, scary black Obama supporter and that's how she chose to do it. Yes, she definitely does have mental issues, it's called being a republican. But that doesn't excuse the rest of them for their crimes, just ask Ted Stevens.

3. Since it wasn't supplied in the OP - she got probation & mandatory mental health conselling
"She was charged with a misdemeanor count of making a false police report and had been jailed since Oct. 24. She underwent a court-ordered psychiatric examination and was deemed to be competent to stand trial but in need of further counseling.

The charge Todd faced carries a maximum two-year jail sentence. Assistant Police Chief Maurita Bryant said Todd must abide by the conditions of her release or risk being prosecuted on the charge."

10. Which is the correct ruling, in my humble opinion
I don't care that she's a Republican, I don't care she was working for McCain and Palin, she's a sick person and she needs professional help....her carving up her own face proves that.

It mightn't be fashionable to some, but we MUST have compassion for those with mental health problems, that we disagree politically shouldn't even come into the equation on a topic such as mental health issues.

We are human beings, what makes us human is our ability to show compassion for the less fortunate.

12. Ah - that adds the details that make the punishment appropriate.
That is not exactly a slap on the wrist.

7. Nonviolent?
Under the agreement, her criminal record will be expunged after if she stays out of trouble and gets mental treatment on probation. Most people spend a year on probation in the program, which is for first-time, nonviolent offenders.

"Our focus was really, 'This is somebody who appeared to have some mental issues,'" said prosecutor Chris Avetta. "And we wanted to make sure she doesn't hurt herself or anybody else."
