Wow....just Wow.....this Canadian is way too emotional.....
I can not stop thinking about Obama and what was said last night...and thru out this campaign....how each and everyone one of you Americans are really lucky to have "That One" ready to take back your country and everything good it ever stood for.....I am still weepy...can't seem to get myself together....and hold it for more than a moment or two, before I again allow the tears to flow...I am just so moved by his words and what it means to America and the world if he takes this one home....I will not be able to handle it if McCain steals this....and it would have to be stolen if he is declared the winner...I will never believe that America would vote that man into office...EVER.

I am filled with so much hope right now...I never want to forget this and wish everyone around me in my life could feel this and be apart of it..but alas, I am a political junkie who's fix is coming in in 5 days...and those around me are oblivious to what is going on in this world and to the south of us...they don't know why my eyes are getting all teary...they don't want to know...I live among people that seem to be robots, who could care less about the big picture and the world as a whole...who are just wanting to get paid and make plans for the next drunk fest or party...there is a definite disconnect going on here...and oh how I wish they could open up their lives to what this whole world needs....I just can't seem to get thru...I am a fool of sorts in their eyes...they look at me as if I have lost my mind...they just don't get it.

Today is the first day in quite a while that I actually can let my hope soar....to the highest its ever been in my short life of 39 years...I chose not to have children, because of how I felt about the world and the people in it....I did not know that Obama was on his way....otherwise, my choice may have been different...no regrets tho...now I can live thru my nieces and nephew..and know that there is and can be a better world for all....for EVERYONE!

Thank you DU for every single post...good and bad....for I am a better person because I came here and am witness to something amazing and life changing...Thank You!

Never give up!!...that really means something to me now.....it has opened my eyes...my heart...and my soul...

gosh...now if I could just stop crying .....I might be able to get some work done....but probably not......November 4th couldn't come sooner for someone who isn't even able to vote....but I did take the 5th off of work(very thankful for my job)to recoup from the emotional roller coaster I have been on for the last while...

Peace Out America.....go and vote...and make sure to take a friend along with you!!

1. I found a couple of tears running down my cheek last night because Obama is the first
candidate that moved me since Bobby Kennedy.

It is the calm rationalness that gets me.

You don't have to be defensive or attacking. Talk about what you will do for us. Calmly. Rationally. Ask us to help you help us make things better. Show the world, show *us* that you are capable of dealing with whatever crap will come up as we all know that it will.

Style and substance. We don't want, or need, someone to drink beer with but someone who can stand up for us.

How can it be that difficult?

I am a bit embarrassed at how taken I am with this man, being a cynical and sarcastic middle aged woman who grew up in the midwest flatlands. Our culture was to not brag, and to not embarrass other people. I am impressed. Very impressed.

Ignore the polls, don't be complacent yet, and GOTV.

5. Thanks for that. It seems kind of unbelievable and surreal that Obama
might win this. We desperately need something good, really good, to happen in this country politically given the last 8 years of pure horror. Obama just might be that something good. :hi:

6. I still have a wait and see approach...
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 01:41 PM by Oregone
Ive already hedge my bets on Canada (even under Harper rule) over the US (even under Barack). The US has such turmoil, corruption and problems that I cannot optimistically think that Obama will be able to "change" the country significantly in a short period of time. Even since the Kennedys, well, hell, the US is what it is today. He may start a dramatic political shift, or he may be a shiny flash of brilliance in a ship going under. Either way, it will take a long, long time, if a true trend develops and continues, for the US to look like a progressive state.

BTW, I acknowledge that Obama is a great, inspiring "candidate". Its just tough to judge how progressive someone is when running against the right wing extremists who are gripping America. PoliticalCompass.org puts him right of center (he would probably not be a Canadian NDPer, and that force in America is almost absent, yet sorely needed). Hell, Richard Nixon would look like a socialist compared to Bush and the current America. So anyway...Ill wait and see what happens in 20 years or so. For now, good, great, the people will make the 'right' choice, finally.

8. I just hope we don't let you down. I can guarantee you that if
Barack pulls this off, I will not leave the house on election day because I know I will be very emotional and can't trust myself to be out in public. On the other hand, since I live in California, it might be a wonderful day to be out among the people and share all the feelings we've had for the last 8 ugly years. I think I'll go out on election day; I sure don't want to miss anything. Thanks for caring so much about what we do here.

I suspect I may hear a party at the house next door Tuesday night. If so, I may grab a bottle of champagne and knock on her door.

9. You have friends who understand
FWIW, I was very young when John Kennedy was elected, but I honestly don't remember people being this inspired. Maybe it's the contrast with what we've lived with since 1980. After all, Eisenhower wasn't all that bad. OTOH, I don't think I've even seen anyone like Obama. (And I was an Edwards supporter originally.)

11. My wife and I voted last night

We vote by mail, but I made sure to show our 10 year old son the ballot as I was filling it out. He made sure that I had the right bubble filled in for his man Barack! Not to mention making sure that I voted NO on Prop H8 here in CA. :hi:

Thanks for the cool Canadian thoughts!

14. Oh, thank you so much for this!
It makes the Big World a little smaller. I am so filled with hope now, in a way that I have never been in my 40+ years of life on this planet. We're living in such a frightening time, I don't know how much difference one man can make... but if anybody can turn this shit around, it's our man Barack!

:woohoo:

15. Thanks
Sorry to say, at places like SmirkingChimp, many of your countrymen/women took the chance to kick us where it hurts, repeating the mantra "See, this just proves you Americans were always evil, and look how GOOD we are, nyah, nyah nyah" Then of course, Harper came in, and I tried not to gloat, as I knew it meant that Right wing evil was in REAL danger of infecting the world. When people like Sarkozy and Harper got elected, I lost about ten meters of bowels from crapping in my pants. I thought "Come on, if France and Canada go right, we are so screwed."

Thankfully, the Right is losing it's charm, namely because people worldwide are seeing that the same corporations plan to cook us all in the same stew pot, and serve us as soup for the new aristocracy. The same people who wanted to rip Iraq apart for oil will coat my Florida beaches in sludge, and mine every inch of your oil sands till the Great White North is the great Dust Bin. The fight against the Corporations is one that will need to be fought, especially in North America, where Nafta and Cafta and other options will be introduced as a means to try and make Washington, Ottawa, and Mexico City helpless.

All the same, it does do a lot of good to know there are people abroad who are rotting for us, who realize that many of us are stuck on this ride and slam on the brakes as much as you do. Thank you.

16. Yes....there are a$$holes in every nation.....
and in every race.....it really is a shame that "We can't all just get along"

I do realize this world is far from being what I personally feel it should be....but I really do feel that if enough people care enough to make a change...change will happen...
Maybe all those people who talk/read prophecies about 2012 being the end of the world - as some believe the Mayans have fortold..could actually be the beginning of a new age....rather than the end of all times..

The age of Greedy Orcs is over....the Time of Honest Man has come...Let truth and peace reign!!

18. I'm another "emotional" Canadian... I'm Dangerous...
I think the Vote is now infected with Crime... There is no such thing as "The Vote" anymore.. and there wasn't really a "vote" any time... They presented two tyrants to choose from to run a vile system... The system doesn't change.. only the drivers are changed when the old one wore out, or proved to be insane, and had to be eliminated to prevent it from any further damaging the nation...
Your so called vote only changes the driver of an almighty toilet from hell... Change government to something that loves you more than it loves your money...

Democracy was initiated by the Greeks... It lasted about five years, then built a military, and started slaughtering and conquering neighbors for their goods and land... We took our democracy from the Greeks failed version... Now we are slaughtering neighbors for their goods and land... AMERICA! GET YOUR HELL OUT OF THE REST OF OUR WORLD!.. GO AWAY!.. GIVE IT UP!.. GET OFF OUR BACKS! & OUT OF OUR LIVES!..
WHO MADE YOU OUR GOD?..
WE DON"T EVEN BELIEVE IN YOUR FAIRYTALE BS CHRISTINSANITY.. and we sure don't want any of that Christianity-CRAP in our lives...
Save yourselves with your crazy fantasy "god"... We've got our ways, you've got yours... Blow yours out yer bums!.. FOAD AMERICA!..

Maybe the problem with your Sick Vile American government, is that the White's House is infested with cosmic parasites, which infect each incoming president into demon status..? Maybe the White's House should be cosmically-cleansed, or at least burned to the ground and replaced...
But DO Something!.. The World is fedup with your insane war against innocent drug using peoples... We don't live your ways... QUIT trying to impose your insanities upon us!.. It's like you came to north America as banished British subject criminals and terminal diseases.. donated your deceased smallpox victims blankets to the indigenous peoples to resolve your claims over their lands, then wrecked it all.. continuing-on in the British motherland's style wars against innocents, like when you were early caveman neanderthal Britain barbarians, violently removing Romans and other from Britain, slaughtering them to take their goods and land... ENOUGH! The Caves and dinos are gone! It's a new age!.. This is the Aquarian Age!.. War is over!.. GET IT!.. and GET LOST!.. Go back to you insane americaner christian hell, but Stop trying to build it here!.. Build a mile tall wall around America.. and stay there... We've have Enough of your GD American insanity, damaging this planet, and our lives... What part of GO AWAY do you American not understand?.. CEASES AND DESIST!.. War is not how love is shared... What can I say to wake you up..? Do you require a Fire in your arse to finally awaken to a little reality..? What will it take to get you out of our lives?.. This is Planet Earth!.. not "planet america"...
GO TO HELL AMERICA!..
