Patrick Leahy: Is Al Franken #60 ??
Email from Patrick Leahy:

Dear ---------,

Al Franken could very well be the 60th Democratic vote we need in the Senate. Please rush a contribution to his campaign today!

Minnesota has produced some our nation's finest progressive leaders, leaders like Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale, and Paul Wellstone.

Now, Al Franken is poised to follow in their footsteps as Minnesota's next U.S. Senator. After trailing his opponent, Republican Senator Norm Coleman, for most of the race, recent polls now show him leading by the narrowest of margins.

It's another dead heat within days of Election Day, and a filibuster-proof Senate majority hangs in the balance.

Electing Al Franken next week would add another bold, progressive voice to the U.S. Senate, and get us one vote closer to the critical 60 votes we need to end the era of Republican obstructionism in Washington. So let's help Al win.

Please rush a contribution to Al Franken's Senate campaign today, and help him win on Election Day!

You might know Al Franken as a comedian, author, and former host on Air America Radio. He is an outspoken critic of the Bush-Cheney Administration and the right-wing noise machine, but has also put forth fresh ideas for getting America back on track -- from standing up for our civil liberties to investing in renewable energy.

Al has mounted a serious challenge to an extremely well-funded Republican incumbent. His statewide grassroots campaign is second-to-none, and with a boost from the Green Mountain PAC community, it will propel him to victory on Election Day.

Please give Al Franken's grassroots campaign the resources it needs in these final 5 days -- so Al can put this seat in the Democratic column next Tuesday!

We need 60 votes to finally pass the Consumer-First Energy Act, to roll back excessive tax breaks for oil companies.

We need 60 votes to pass the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act, so that the federal government can bargain with pharmaceutical companies to reduce prescription drug prices.

And we need 60 votes to pass the long overdue Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, to guarantee equal pay for equal work -- regardless of gender.

These critical pieces of legislation, and many others, all failed because we couldn't overcome Republican filibusters. And if elected President, many of Barack Obama's most ambitious proposals could face the same fate, unless we act now to reach 60 Democratic votes in the Senate.

Al Franken could very well be the 60th Democratic vote we need in the Senate. Please rush a contribution to his campaign today!

Contribute to Al Franken:

Thank you so much for taking immediate action, today, to move us closer towards a 60-vote majority in the Senate -- by contributing to Al Franken and all of our promising Democratic challengers.

Sincerely,

Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator

6. Him being #60 would be the ultimate revenge of the liberals
His crusade against Rush back in the 90's, his feud with Billo back in the early days of the war, Mr. Franken has always been on the front lines against the right. I haven't always agreed with him and have found many of his positions too moderate for me, but I do respect him. And if we end up getting Obama and him as the 60th Senate seat, then I can think of no greater way of saying, "FUCK YOU REPUBLICANS!"

15. Al has heart and soul, brains and balls
He's a deeply compassionate, highly intelligent, well-informed man with a strong commitment to the truth. With jokes.

Al is a mensch who will fight for Minnesotans and all Americans. He is not afraid of the rabid right and he knows how to build coalitions.

Minnesotans needs Al Franken in the Senate. Democrats need Al Franken in the Senate. We will all benefit with Al Franken in the Senate.

I have donated to him three times and would give him more if I could. Please, send him just a little money. Even five dollars will help.

K&R!
