I love Amtrak...
I just took the train up to Vermont from NYC. I missed the TV broadcast, but thank you DU, I just watched it here!!!

I am relatively new here and appreciate the opportunity to share with you all since I move every three weeks for my job. In Brooklyn now, Rhode Island next....

I have a question??? I just bought 5 acres with farmhouse and barns in south central Michigan. It is an estate that was originally 50 acres and the rest of the 45 are still for sale (couldn't afford it all). I want to form a non-profit or cooperative or such to purchase the acreage and create community gardens/farm or some such venture. Any ideas?????

5. Alerting, Mr. Troll. Boy, you really don't know how to play this game,
do you? You are supposed to lurk and post innocently for a while before outing yourself.

14. PS- if you want places to visit, see, eat etc. in Rhode Island let me know...
there aren't a lot of good tourist guides so sometimes locals are the only info.

4. How far are you from a town or city large enough to have apartment dwellers
or homes on lots too small to have a garden? Because that's what you will need nearby to have a successful community garden.

6. Welcome to DU!
You should check out the gardening forum, there's some great advice there. I'd also love to talk to you about this, as it's kind of a dream of mine. Feel free to PM me.

8. still learning..
I haven't figured out how to send personal messages yet but I will. I was hoping maybe there were some of you that might have ideas I haven't thought of yet or be interested. I have lots of farming knowledge and experience, just not enough money to do the whole deal. I figure distance from city can be overcome... the place is between Lansing and Jackson...

15. Welcome from another Amtrak lover
I'm on the west coast and hope we get our high speed trains soon. I wish there was something we could do to keep the dumb freight trains from hanging up the California Zephyr for hours and hours and hours, but I still stick to the train.

:hi:

18. Vote yes on California's High Speed Rail project
It's the real deal. 200+ miles an hour top speed, a great way of doing things. Money that will be well spent I'm sure.

19. Already done
My only regret is that the train won't go through the East Bay. I'll have to take the Capital Corridor to catch it.

20. go to the CSA websites
if you are in an area that promotes open space, organizations like the Heritage Conservancy might help you.
