I don't think that change will come in time for everyone.
The partner of a friend of mine has lost enough weight in the last year to drop six sizes. She was not overweight to begin with, and she is not anorexic or bulimic or trying to lose weight. Something is very wrong. She has a full time job with no benefits and has recently taken on a second job in the hope that it might lead to a job with health insurance. She knows something is not right. I had not seen her for a long time until this week, and when I did I was shocked.

In the state of Wisconsin, we hope to implement "Healthy Wisconsin" but that could take a year or not happen at all. Obama wants to bring about health care for everyone, but that's not going to happen right away. I have the feeling that this person needs a medical workup right now, and that it may already be too late.

Why does it take so long for us to figure out that peoples lives and health are worth investing in?

3. I don't know that any emergency room will treat someone
with normal vital signs who has lost weight as an emergency patient. I think they will tell her to see her "regular" doctor. To do the bloodwork is expensive- so this is a barrier to care.

I had some simple bloodwork a year ago after I had been on a medication for a month and it was $480.

4. I'm afraid you're right
And even after the election, you know the reps are going to fight changes however they can. I'm worried they'll manage to tie Obama's ideas up with red tape for years. We just have to keep pushing forward. My best wishes and thoughts to your friend, and everyone else trying to hang on.
