Bill Cunningham: ‘People are poor in America…because they lack values, morals, and ethics.’

from ThinkProgress:

Cunningham: ‘People are poor in America…because they lack values, morals, and ethics.’»

On his radio show yesterday, far right talker Bill Cunningham — who Sean Hannity considers a “great American” — claimed that people who are poor in America are not poor “because they lack money.” “They’re poor because they lack values, morals, and ethics,” said Cunningham. Listen here: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/29/cunningham-poor-people/

This is the second day in a row that Cunningham has verbally attacked the poor. On his Monday show, he declared, “Among the so-called noble poor in America…birth control is not used so illegitimate children can be brought into the world, so the mom can get more checks in the mail from the government.”

1. Gross
I long for the day when the right begins voting in its own self-interest, instead of what they're told their interests have to be

3. Actually, I'd tend to think that the poor would have superior values, ethics, and morals
They didn't cheat to get ahead. They didn't steal from others. Some of the hardest working people I've ever known work for the minimum wage.

There's nothing wrong with a day's hard work. Maybe Mr. Cunningham might want to become acquainted with the concept.

4. Uh-huh - the old "poor people are just lazy and rich people work harder" CRAP...
...and that's just it - CRAP.

I KNOW poor people who work their ASSES off and still have trouble just getting the BASICS of life. And it's NOT because they misspend or waste money - they don't HAVE any money to misspend or waste!

I'm so SICK of this pretentious argument.

I know rich people who don't DO SQUAT for the money they "earn" - I don't buy the "lazy poor people/hardworking rich people" meme. It's a pretentious EXCUSE to keep those who benefit from the status quo swimming in money - money they glombed off the backs of working people whose tax dollars are privatized to make someone ELSE rich, while they struggle. And when the rich get themselves in a bind (can you say WALL STREET?! - speaking of lazy, and stupid) - then the ALREADY-STRUGGLING TAXPAYERS get to bail their asses out.

Pffft!

7. This truly is what these people force themselves to believe.
It's disgusting and completely untrue. It's hard to believe that people are that stupid and clueless, but there it is.

9. Cunningham's bible must be missing this portion...
Along with most of the New Testament, Cunningham's bible must be missing these verses;

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. (Matt 7:1-5)

Mr. Cunningham must look absolutely ridiculous with that 2x4 sticking out of his eye.

"more checks in the mail from the government". Just another example of the dog whistle code worded type of phrase these pieces a shit love to use.

15. Never had a serious illness?
One really serious illness makes a working family very poor. When my mom was very ill it was a tough winter in 1957. No heat, no blankets, little food. No place back then to get help in a small rural community. My dad took care of us boys, my mom and still worked his butt off. I wish Bill Cunningham had to spend a week like I spend a winter. Even that bonehead might learn something.

For hope for every cold and hungry kid in America. Obama/Biden 08
