Quick, random question about Larry the Cable Guy
Is he really a living redneck conservative stereotype or just a really, really good parody of people like that (i.e. people at Palin rallies)?

2. A little from Column A and a little from Column B
He's not really from the south but he really is not that funny. See David Cross's retort to his insulting David.

6. He's a redneck, with a whole lot of money
I think part of it is an act, but I am pretty sure most of it isn't.

11. He's not a redneck ...

He's not even close to being a redneck.

And I don't mean that as a compliment as I happen to like a vast number of rednecks. These guys are exceptionally cool.

He's a comedic actor who found a character that appealed to a lot of people. His voice is completely manufactured. He's actually something of a savant in his art. He's become so good at it that he has in many respects become "Larry."

Now if your question is whether his own opinions and beliefs enter into his act, the answer is yes, they do.

12. Being called a Redneck
has become one of the last, generally acceptable stereotypes against mainly lower income, working Southerners. Being a redneck has its funny points, like most aspects of life. However, to paint an entire group of people as being unintelligent, right wing and backwards is rather demeaning. Most "rednecks" I know and I consider myself a redneck, are Democratic leaning people, who work hard, try to raise and provide for our families and definitely are not fundamentalist noobs or beer swilling drunks.

Larry the Cable Guy is not funny, is not Southern and is not a redneck. Rednecks generally work hard with their hands for their living, something that tub of lard from Nebraska doesn't do. He perpetuates a stereotype, sold to primarily urban audiences, who relish is making fun of people who are generally not as well of economically as them.

If you want to see real rednecks, go visit with a real farmer or rancher, a mechanic, etc. Some will be college educated, some will have come up through apprenticeship programs and some will have learned from their parents to earn a living. being a redneck is not equivalent with being a racist, because real rednecks come in all colors and flavors. By the way, we rednecks don't generally marry our cousins, most can think for ourselves and a great many of us a liberal leaning Democrats, who still remember what are elders taught us about Democrats (FDR) and the corporate, money hungry Republicans (Hoover

13. Very well said ...

I could not agree more.

This is precisely why I loathe "Larry."

14. There are rednecks all over the damn country..
If your minister uses Quaker State when he anoints you..

I fit the stereotype of redneck pretty well, Southerner, lower income, worked with my hands, no education past HS, (other than the fact I'm a lifelong autodidact) and I find Larry somewhat amusing for short periods..

His shtick does get old pretty fast though.
