Safe Haven law up to 23 kids now.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081029/ap_on_re_us/safe_haven

OMAHA, Neb. – A 17-year-old boy was confirmed Wednesday as the 23rd child abandoned under the state's unique safe-haven law, as the governor prepared to address changes in the law.

Mentions that a majority of state senators are going to revise the law to only accept infants up to 3 days old.

1. I don't think they should change the law.
I suspect those kids are better off now.

7. I agree
The children are safer than they would be elsewhere.

9. Sure, but this is about GOP'ers that don't want to fund Human Services.

3. In Michigan, parents don't have to abandon 17 year olds who are a pain
They can petition the court to have the brat emancipated.

5. Yes, it's always the kid's fault
When the parent abandons them. :eyes:

6. Why would they change the law?
Is it not the purpose to make sure children are cared for?

If a parent is in such a bad state that they have to give up their kids it is a good thing for them to have a safe way to do it.

8. THREE DAYS??? that's lunacy.. It should be at least 9 months
Many naive young mothers "keep their baby" when the hormones are rushing, and they are feeling all maternal following a birth, but once the hard work of actually caring for an infant ....every day... 28-8 starts, I bet many of them have second thoughts.. I would rather have it so they could have a safety valve, instead of a growing resentment for a child they no longer want .
