Crist extends voting hours In Florida
This is a very big deal: Florida Governor Charlie Crist, to the shock and dismay of Florida Republicans, just moved to extend early voting hours, a move likely to widen the Democrats' lead under a program on which the Obama campaign has intensely focused.

"He just blew Florida for John McCain," one plugged in Florida Republican just told me.

The Buzz reports:

At a hastily arranged news conference, Crist said the right to vote is sacred and that "many have fought and died for this right." He said he consulted a leading Democratic legislator, Rep. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach, before issuing his order, and that Gelber knew of a similar order issued by Gov. Jeb Bush in 2002 that dealt with helping voters deal with new equipment.

As to the perception that more early voting helps Democrats, Crist said: "This is not a political decision. This is a people decision."

2. There's nothing noble about it. He's being forced to do it.
Thank the Democratic members of the State that backed his ass into a corner. Although he could have stalled a little while longer if felt he had any loyalty to McCain any more. But McCain's campaign tossed him aside, because they knew what would come out. And to think, he went and got married for nothing.

Come over to our side Charlie, we don't give a rat's ass about those things.

3. Do you think it will really help Dem voters, do you think...
that Crist knows it might help Dem voters, and do you think he WANTS to help Dem voters? Maybe payback for McCain chosing Palin over him?

9. I can't speak for the whole panhandle, but here in my little corner of it
we have not had long lines. I voted last Wednesday and just waltzed right in, voted, and headed back to work.

7. That is good
Maybe Crist is one of the few republicans who have principles because w/o voting our democracy doesn't exist. Schwarzenegger came out against the attempt to divide the EVs of California into 55 seperate votes. Chafee voted against the Iraq war. That and he is trying to set himself up for 2012.
