Why don't the democrats run an ad...of McLame saying the jobs are not returning to Ohio?

Property values alone should be enough to detere anyone from voting R.

Amazing how many McCain fans in my part of Ohio....the phone banking rough........the door to door even rougher!!!

I am mythed and upset.

1. Because the GOP convinces people that it would be worse under Democrats.
No matter how bad the economy is, they spin propaganda that it would be even worse if those damned Democrats win.

No matter how bad our health care is, they spin propaganda that socialized health care will be so much worse.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

2. Because those who vote are are AFRAID
of: losing money, control and a good portion are usually afraid of God and going to hell. They have been zombiefied and fear stricken.

3. Tradition...It takes all the guess work out of choosing where you put your vote.
Very simple. Easy to execute. Perfect for the conservative personality.

5. For some, it's merely a matter of looking north to Michigan ...
... and saying "Those Michiganders vote Democratic so it's obvious that Republicans are better."

It's no accident that elections and football are coincident.

8. Those funny state mottos that get passed around tell the tale...

MICHIGAN: "First line of defense against the Canadians." (My addendum, "you're welcome, Ohio.")

OHIO: "At least we're not Michigan."

Yes, you could say there is a rivalry (over and above certain sports teams). Full disclosure of household leanings: DH is a graduate of a certain blue and gold-ish university. :-)

9. the metro and rural areas here are very different
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 01:25 PM by Neo
the cities are enlightened folk and many who are indeed disenfranchised by being screwed the past 8 years. Then you head outward and it's a sprawl of mega Churches and gun nuts. Then there's the clueless drones on Ronald Reagan Blvd in the shit hole Hamilton County, the reddest county in the midwest. BUT Kerry won there in 2004 meaning you can't trust anything here anymore as far as polls and Diebold counts.

13. Hey...I resemble that remark !
I live close enough to Ronald Reagan Highway that I can hear the traffic on a warm summer night but it will ALWAYS be Cross County Highway to me. There is so much fear around here about what would happen in a "democrat" administration. I have fun with the neighbors. I ask them to tell me why they're voting for McSame with out using the phrase "I'm afraid that...". They usually get about one sentence into a point before they say it. This goes on for 3-4 minutes and then it degrades into "I just am". My daughter's first criteria for picking a college was "Blue state as far from Cincinnati as possible". Fight on Trojans !

The good news is that I do think I live in a little blue dot community in Hamilton County. In 2004, a guy on the main road put up a little sign that said "Bush Lied and x,xxx Died". He changed the number just about every day. Really pissed off a lot of folks and they went to the city council to have it taken down. Meeting was a total hoot and the mayor + city council pretty much said "WTF ? You want us to ban political speech ? Get outta here...next topic please!". That was fun.

Give us a little credit here in Ohio. We did take a couple good first steps in 2006 electing a Democratic Gov and Sec of State. Can you imagine what the news around here would be like if we still had spineless Blackwell as the SoS (and probably state campaign chair for McSame). The current SoS has he head on straight, she's strategic when it comes to the courts and she's got balz. So...first step taken, next step on Tuesday. God I hope I live in a blue state by next Wednesday.
