"A pall will be lifted"
My neighbor and her husband both work for one of the three letter spook agencies. I have no idea what they do and they never talk about it. All as it should be.

But I know they're liberals because we *do* occasionally talk politics, although they both tend to be a bit reticent as compared to my wild and crazy overt liberalism.

In any event, I saw her just a few minutes ago. I said "Well ..... a little more than a week to go!"

She spoke more freely than I can recall her speaking before. She said that for the first time in eight years, she'll feel free to talk politics at work. She said most of the people she works with are liberals (that kinda surprised me) who also don't feel free to talk. She described the bush years as a "pall" over her work community. They fear the civil service 'new people' who were hired right out of school by the political appointees. I used the term religious nutfuckers and she nodded agreeingly. She cited the mess at the Justice Department as only one example and not the worst.

Some of her work friends are planning parties.

1. Intelligence Hates GWB, just as GWB hates intelligence. I left govt. intel 6 months after 9/11
Who knows, I might think of revisiting my old stomping grounds come Obama's administration.

4. That pall of fear has extended over all workplaces
because everybody knows if they stick their heads up at all, they'll get fired on a whim and there are no unions or laws to protect them because labor law has gone unenforced for 8 miserable years.

Even people who voted for this fool will see these 8 years as a time of near dictatorship and fear born of evil at the top.

5. If they're in "those" agencies, they know about the skullduggery and they're *still* optimistic?
Stinky, that just brought me to tears. Let it be so.

9. Intel and ops people take understandable pride in their work...
...when they believe it really is supporting national security. They can't possibly appreciate being turned into errand-boys and propagandists by */Cheney.

They are probably looking forward to getting back to the work that was interrupted all those years ago--and perhaps to ditching a few useless political appointees.

7. I think I'd love working for a federal agency...
...with Obama at the top of the chain of command. I could've gotten a fed job around here before, but I just couldn't bring myself to work for W.

8. I know many civil servants, including some in three-letter agencies,
and they all loathe Bush and what he has done to this country. That is why I get upset by the paranoid posts here about how we shouldn't trust any government worker, the Secret Service won't protect Obama, etc. These people don't deserve that kind of suspicion.

10. Thank you ....... I've given up trying to refute the over the top paranoia
When ya live in Federal City, ya get to know lots of them. Most are very decent people who really do try to do a good job.
