Why are the police "mapping" the neighborhood?

I just came back from a neighborhood backyard chat. The neighbor two doors down told us the police put a large silver X in their backyard and photographed it from above. They did the same thing several houses down in both directions.

We asked what it was for and the response was vague -- something about the police being able to find her house. I thought at first it was for Google maps or Zillow.com or something like that but it seems like it could be a homeland security thing. Or what? Is it :tinfoilhat: time?

this is East Mesa, almost AJ.

Yesterday morning 8 Apache helicopters flew overhead in formation, scaring the crap out of the critters, me, and as I learned this morning, most of my neighbors also. I doubt that these two things are related but it makes me think "police state."

...but when they cross, it's just because two planes were flying at 90 degrees to each other. Nothing mysterious.

they are doing the same thing in WV area. It is like google maps on crack... so the X are references for the map images they are making. Not real time.
