Why the voter registration issue is so important.

With all the talk of registering "new voters" and "young voters" and requiring ID and purging voter rolls you just have to wonder what is it all about and how much does it matter. And what about the Bush's DOJ concern of the 200,000 "questionable" registrants in Ohio?

My Friends, Millions of people across the USA move each year. (14%) Almost 50 million! These people, that portion who are voting age, must re register to vote at their new location before being able to vote in their new location. Most are younger, 20-30 years old. Its a pain in the ass and a lot don't do it. Some, knowing they won't be at the new location for long, don't bother.

Then along comes the Republican Party, guardians of the polling place, to throw up even more barriers to these millions of people who should be joining with the rest of us in choosing the course of the country.

We Democrats are happy to report registering a couple million "new" voters and think that is going to put us in new territory this coming election, and I agree it does seem like the "new" voter numbers are better than ever, but look at these numbers of people moving each year. How many have actually changed addresses since 2004 (the last presidential election)? How many have just come of voting age since 2004? Could this be 75 Million total who need to register to vote this year? Are the Republicans serious about their concern of voter fraud or is this just pre 1965 voters rights stuff left over. People wonder why we baby boomers are so hung up on the 60's!?!

Line up! Blacks here: No voting today, Poor people here: No ID, no vote, Just moved here, We don't have any records...sorry.
