Good for Barney Frank
At a meeting with the editorial board of the New Bedford Standard Times, Rep. Barney Frank called for a 25 percent cut in military spending which, he said, would mean getting out of Iraq sooner.

It would also mean that we would be constrained from getting into any more disastrous wars (and I hope getting out of the Afghanistan morass as well), and maybe even resigning from our self-appointed position as policeman of the world.

I think we are going to win big, and I hope that leaders like Barney Frank - who seems to have a strong grasp on reality - will hold firm on (at least) a 25 percent cut in military spending.

5. Fear is the mind killer
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

18. Do tell, how do you know what Obama will do, besides suspecting
the worst? You're outing yourself again.

4. I agree with Barney Frank completely. Good for him.
Christ, he's not advocating slashing the military or reducing it to third world levels or anything. He's talking about cutting the Pentagon budget.

I agree with your points also.

6. 25 percent cut on the Miltiary would be disaster for 2012
It might be practical, but it's political suicide.

7. While I agree with him, now is not the time to be threatening the Defense Dept
. He should just keep quiet another ten days and then spread the word. Many people that are on the verge of voting for Obama may just not do so if they think Democrats will cut Defense and weaken America as they see it..

9. $10 billion per month in Iraq = $120 billion per year.
There's a potential big saving right there.

10. A very long overdue first step in the right direction.
Of course "the home of the brave" will be wetting themselves in fear of whatever bogeyman the Pentagon threatens us with to ever let it happen.

16. Good for him.
I'd prefer 50% at least, but 25% would be a good start.

20. 25% is about what nuclear weapons are costing us
Add it all up, maintenance, security, planning, training, aircraft, submarines ...

We could lose the nukes and never know the difference in National Security
