. Infrastructure of hate
Mr Obama seems to be on the way to winning the election to become President. Many are the reasons for this. Things have changed between the elections of 2004 and 2008.
The outlets of the major corporate owned information media (previously known as news) are easy to manipulate. The Republican Party (GOP) recognized how vulnerable the media was and used this vulnerability to their advantage ever since the days of Ronald Reagan.
The GOP designed and built its infrastructure of hate to attack the Democratic Party, Liberals, and any one who stood in their way. This attack hate machine is well financed and flexible, it is controlled but not controllable; once turned on it runs until it destroys all in its path. Rumor, innuendo, blatant lies, and disinformation were (and are) started by these unaccountable promoters of hate. The election year 2004 was the acme of its echo-chamber effectiveness. Though weakened, it remains a potent force of evil.
So why are the GOP hate happy barkers not able to affect the 2008 elections? They have been in many aspects neutralized by open and honest people capable of checking the facts and responding quickly to their chicanery.
The truth,
One major difference that has really helped the Democratic Party and the people in the 2008 elections is the maturing of the fact-checking internet infrastructure that has helped neutralized the hate machine of the right. Truthful information is disseminated as quickly as disinformation is created.
The fact-checking internet infrastructure is a good development. It too can be expected to remain a potent force for good.
Democratic Underground is an important contributor to the efforts at getting the truth out. Tell the whole truth, do not become like those who tell only that which advances their agenda. Let DU continue to strive to be a source of open and honest information. Water flows downhill no matter who pours it. Trust the people to understand the truth.
It is Saturday morning and I want to get this on record. Thanks for listening.
