Remember how Republicans threatened our Senators with Nuking
our filibusters. I can't remember all the details of the how and why of it but I know it definitely intimidated our Senate and we got Roberts and Scalito. If we don't get sixty seats we have that same option I would think..
The Republican Party is imploding and the next few years will be devoted to internal power plays. Congressional Republicans are going to be on their own. There won't be a Republican machine to command Party line voting. These people are going to be far more willing to consider an agenda that actually helps their constituents rather than the financial backers of their Party. In my state (Maine), I can see both Collins and Snowe voting with the majority on social issues. I'm sure there are a few more Republicans in the Senate that will be open to a bi-partisan (read Democratic) agenda.
If we get strong Democratic support (57+) votes, I don't think the surviving Republican cowards in the Senate will dare to block a new agenda...way too much exposure for them to get in the way of change that the electorate is demanding.
