1. Probably. OTOH, there are many pithy sayings in the bible . . .
(none of which occur to me right now) which illuminate one or more truths of the human condition without requiring a religious bent. So, maybe not.

But probably.

15. Love thy neighbor
Let thee who is without sin cast the first stone

Render unto Ceaser

What you have done for the least of my brethren you have done for me

It is easy to love your friend, love your enemy

When you give, give in secret
When you pray, go into a room and pray to your Father in Heaven with no one around

How can you remove the splinter from your neighbor's eye when you have a log in yours?

2. Nope, it however points to their hypocrisy...

If they're going to rely on it as they do, there is nothing wrong with using it to show them exactly what sort of book it is.

11. Interesting. So your local paper has
"RW topix" and I'm guessing "LW topix" as well.

This country has become so divided, the newspaper needs two polar opposite message boards. :-(

"Though I walk thru the shadow of the valley of morons, I will fear no dummies, for they are shallow and easily flummoxed..."

See?

10. Not at all..
After all, even the Devil can quote scripture.

An interesting task is to keep track of just how many times the freepers quote the words of the Christ.. In my experience it is almost never, they are far more fond of Saul of Tarsus and various Old Testament smiters.

18. Is it something you find useful?
Just because you found it in the buy-bull doesn't mean you have to discard it just because of its origin.

There's some good stuff in there along with all the contradictions and justification for bigotry.

22. A belief in God, the divinity of Jesus, or in the divine inspiration of the writers of
the books of the Bible is not necessary for you to find wisdom or even inspiration in it. Nothing hypocritical at all, especially when citing it to people who profess a belief in it.

23. No. You are merely citing, arguendo, controlling text your opponent accepts as binding.
I do it all the time.

It's the best way, perhaps the only way, to argue effectively with one who thinks the Bible is controlling.
