Coverup of Extensive War Crimes: 40th Anniversary of the My Lai Massacre

In a bitter irony, Colin Powell, who was responsible for the coverup of the My Lai massacre acceded to a "brilliant" career in the Armed Forces. In 2001 he was appointed Secretary of State in the Bush administration. Although never indicted, Powell was also deeply implicated in the Iran-Contra affair.

It is worth noting that Colin Powell was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the time of the Gulf War, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of retreating Iraqi soldiers in what British war correspondent Felicity Arbuthnot entitled "Operation Desert Slaughter".

"The forty two day carpet bombing, enjoined by thirty two other countries, against a country of just twenty five million souls, with a youthful, conscript army, with broadly half the population under sixteen, and no air force, was just the beginning of a United Nations led, global siege of near mediaeval ferocity."

In the words of General Norman Schwartzkopf who led Operation Desert Slaughter "'There was no one left to kill'...

2. He vocally opposed Clinton's effort to permit gays to serve in the military, he did NOT vocally ...
oppose the Iraq War, Gitmo or Abu Grahib.

He's an opportunist.

3. Yes, I can say My Lai. I can also say "Important, game-changing endorsement."
What WE know, and what WE think about Colin Powell is NOT what most Americans know and think about Colin Powell.

In order to win this election, Obama needs lots of votes from those Americans who do not know and think about Colin Powell the way we do.

I want Obama to win this election. What WE know and what WE think about Colin Powell is UTTERLY IRRELEVANT to achieving the goal of getting Obama in the White House.

4. his endorsement of Obama is
more of a "blow" to the repubs than it's an enticement for waving dems

it's also a condemnation of the past 8 years of bush/repubs

"``We need a president that will not just continue, even with a new face and some changes and with some maverick aspects, will not just continue basically the policies that we have been following in recent years,'' Powell said on NBC's ``Meet the Press.''

blame him for My Lai and for his performance at the UN regarding Iraq if you will - but the repubs are taking HUGH hit with the endorsement

I hope Obama doesn't put him in his administration. He's a serial war criminal.

7. I honestly don't think that there was anything Powell could have done
to stop it. I'm disapointed that he gave that UN speech, but the invasion would have happened no matter what. * decided before the 2000 election that we were going into Iraq, and we all know how stubborn he is.
