May I take this opportunity to do a little ranting and raving?
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 09:57 PM by hedgehog
So I submitted the dental insurance company's explanation of benefits for my daughter's wisdom teeth extraction to the insurance company that handles the Flexible Savings Account (which is a scheme whereby you give the insurance companies a certain amount of your money to hold until you need it to pay for a medical bill. You don't pay income tax on the money, and they profit from the float, but I digress.) Anyways, I was able to see on the computer that they'd received the claim. And I was able to see for the next 10 days that they'd received the claim. Finally, today, I see that they've mailed the claim back for further info! I can't imagine what further info they need, but why did it take them 10 days to figure out that they needed it!

Someone tell me again how terrible it will be when the Federal government pays for our medical care....

1. I guess it is all those steps between the work and pay.
Once the ins. co. got into anything with care I have had trouble. My problem is I was under Navy care for years until I left my husband and lost that care. I then knew what it was like to deal with profit making Corp.It has not been easy and I now know what people were for ever fussing about.

2. I recieved an updated from my insurance company that said I was going to pay
$10,000.00 but it turned out they needed more info from the hospital. Oh and my wife was talking to flex account people for a claim after she faxed them 3 times and it was busy. They told her to just mail it because it is just as fast as faxing it. Really

3. Who is the 'Federal Government'?
We, The American Wage Earner, pays ALL the costs of the 'Federal Government'. The 'Federal Government' is not a static money tree. Our economy expands and contracts based on the disposable income of 'The American Wage Earner'.

Basic civilized society has two rules: 1) clean up every mess you make; 2) put things where they belong

When has our good 'ol Uncle Sam stuck his nose in our marketplace and not made a mess?

Case in point: Minimum wage. The sole purpose of this was to 'level' the playing field of the textile industry in America. Seems those Puerto Ricans figured out a way to live fat, dumb and happy on just one 'nickle' an hour. So the 'mainland' textile industry were having trouble competing in our marketplace so they complained our good 'ol Uncle Sam. Uncle Sammy being smarter than we are, decided that everyone needed to make a minimum wage of 25 cents. This had the desired effect for the mainland textile industry since now the Puerto Ricans can no longer compete. Our Uncle Sam bent the Puerto Ricans over a barrel. If we owe reparations to anyone it should be to Puerto Rico and we should repeal the minimum wage.

7. Ah, wisdom teeth.
I wound up paying a large portion of the cost of my wisdom teeth extraction.

The oral surgeon's office called my dental insurance company, and was told I'd owe $285.
I paid it before the surgery, then I had the surgery.

Then I started getting bills.
Turned out my dental insurance refused to pay for the extraction, as it was a "surgical procedure."
And my regular insurance wouldn't pay for it because it was a "dental procedure."

So I wound up paying $1800 more on my own.

8. Typical. My experience
Was preparing for braces. Orthodonist sent me to dentist to have a rough spot on a tooth smoothed down - apparently it would interfer with the brace brackets or wires. Dentist spent 2 minutes smoothing down a spot. Ended up paying more than $200 because the insurance said the procedure was cosmetic. That's how they get ya!
