On what things are you procrastinating in favor of election preoccupation?
I have a Nov. 5th to-do list growing every day of things I'd have done already if it weren't for my near-total waking preoccupation with all things election-related.

Get price quotes on fixing the stove, take the cat in for a teeth cleaning, dye my roots, address some credit history report errors, reestablish relationships with friends who aren't so politically preoccupied. I started a continuing ed class in psychology two weeks ago and have struggled to read just nine pages out of 50 pages of course material. Meanwhile, not a day passes that I don't read the entire WaPo and NYT op-ed sections, spend an hour or two reviewing on-line reader responses, another one or two on DU, and a few more on MSNBC and the NewsHour as I exchange election-related email with equally obsessed friends and family. This is seven days a week.

I wonder if this election has yet rendered me sub-clinically neurotic.

1. The floors have not been properly cleaned in a long long time.
I haven't started making Christmas lists. The oven needs cleaning. And I really should get my youngest to either go back to school or get a job, really. I just don't have the time or energy to pester him.

2. Work. I work online and it's really hard to close DU and
open my work site.

7. 30 minutes pass, and I catch myself wondering what new cycle of threads
has appeared since the last check in. DU is always open on my personal laptop. At work, DU, WaPo and NYT are also always open on my desktop, albeit hidden behind the software. If I'm ever caught, I'm counting on the fact that my boss is a Dem.

17. Forgot about that, too

I like doing mixed-media, and my last decent collage was 'Bush Goes to War.' I started on something called 'Car Bomb' in August, but haven't pulled my materials out since then. A blank 5x3 canvas has been sitting in my dining room since July. I just walk around it. So many beautiful images of Obama this season, especially of his rallies in St. Louis and Germany, that want working with, too.

6. I've put off a lot.
I don't go to the movies as much - I'd rather read DU and all the links from DU to everywhere else. I need to clean my carpets and my oven. I need to add new stuff to my websites, but as soon as I get online, I find myself clicking my DU button. I have put off returning the wrong books back to Amazon, sending back a pricey appliance that's too big for my kitchen, and organizing my bills/paperwork. I'm normally a real organization freak. Usually before I go out on business, I wait 'till the very last minute to head out the door. All because I'm glued to DU and MSNBC.

14. I haven't watched a movie in almost two months
I've had the same Netflix movie - unopened - since August. I can't even remember what movie it is, but it's sitting on my DVR.

Your stove is one of three others in this thread suffering the same neglect.

13. Whoops! I thought it was just me!!!!
I've put off starting my book and writing a paper that's due for a symposium presentation. I'm eager for the election to be over for a LOT of reasons, and I thought I was just exhibiting newly acquired OCD tendencies! LOL! I have spent entire days lurking blogs.

15. No, and it's nice knowing I'm not alone either
This election is historic for so many reasons. I like to think my extreme self-exposure to all things election-related this season will be for something one day. I'd love to publish eventually, too, and when something captures your attention like this, I think it helps you to get to know yourself a little better.
