Poll question: Why is "vetting" important?
Assuming, first of all that it is.

So, today brings news that after not vetting the star of their newest campaign word salad, McCain is flushing "Joe" the "plumber."

Okay, vetting does appear to be important, but why?

Why should a candidate do background checks on their running mate, or know anything about a person featured in a commercial?

3. I'm a little old fashioned sometimes.
I'd prefer my name be associated with people I hold in esteem and whom I respect.

While that's very subjective from person to person, I'd like to think many of the same qualities I value would be the same qualities valued by those who I ask to vote for me.

That's no longer a winning strategy, if it ever truly was. As I said, I'm old fashioned sometimes; and I still have some ideological tendencies. It's also why I've never run for political office; yes, I have been approached to do just that. Politics is not, now especially, nor has it ever really been, about respect, esteem, and real values.

If you ever have time ("you" the OP and "you" anyone else reading), google around for some of the editorial cartoons and articles from history. Politics has always been an ugly, hateful, and hate-filled "game."

7. Which begs the question...
"Politics has always been an ugly, hateful, and hate-filled 'game.'"

If what I said is true, what kind of person would we expect to succeed? Which begs the next question. What kind of government would we expect if it were populated and run by, those people?

I'll leave that out there for people to decide on their own.

5. Sarah Palin is still using him in stump speeches
I'm mad the corporate media hasn't exposed the truth yet. It's been long enough.

8. Vetting is Critical for Democrats, Doesn't Matter for Republicans
because the Republicans always have the MSM on their side.
