Another Obama Yard Sign Story
I know that I should probably be glad that at least they didn't take or destroy my Obama sign considering the really bad stories that I have heard and read, but my husband and I are still annoyed. We live in a traditionally conservative area in Northern Virginia (there are huge McCain/Palin Country signs on the corners of major intersections here). About seven of our neighbors in this circle have McCain/Palin yard signs (two of which are next to foreclosed houses). There are about five of us with Obama yard signs. One of our neighbors, awesome people that they are, has four Obama yard signs on their lawn.

Anyway, we woke up early this morning and, when we looked outside, we noticed that our Obama yard sign had been moved and turned to face the house in an area next to where my car was parked in the driveway. This kept the sign obscured from the view of anyone driving by. I also noticed yesterday that the our neighbor up the street's Obama sign (which they put up about a week ago) is a bit messed up now like someone twisted it and it had to be straightened out. It just says something to me that as much as we dislike seeing the McCain/Palin yard signs they are basically left alone and always in the same place every day because we respect their right to do so and the fact that it is their property.

It's incredible to me that we leave their McCain/Palin signs alone and basically mind our business, but they can't seem to help themselves. Someone obviously felt that they had a right to trespass on our property and mess with our sign. It is such incredibly juvenile behavior. Their candidates are losing ground fast in this state and it must frustrate the living hell out of whoever did this. I am tempted to put a note on the sign saying, "Go ahead and mess with this sign because each time you do the Obama campaign with get a nice donation from us and the signs will multiply."

It will be interesting to see if this is where they stop.

1. Go ahead and put a SECOND sign on your lawn.
I bought two signs myself- the second one is a back-up in case the first one is stolen.

Also, I keep my signs relatively close to the house, rather than right by the curb.

7. Good Idea
:think:I'll probably move it today and try to get another one. I will probably put that note on the sign, just in case.

2. Last Time
I had my Kerry sign up with a pistol target on a piece of cardboard lying on the ground in front of it, showing a fist sized group of six.

No Problem.

3. I live in No. VA and we've had 2 signs ripped up.
The person poked their fingers thru the plastic and pulled it apart.

We moved them closer to the house and reinforced them with tape. I suspect that it is neighborhood kids. An adult would take the sign and throw it away.

One freeper neighbor took her McCain/Palin sign down and then put up signs saying it was stolen. She now has 5 signs and signs daring liberals to take them. I'd call her on that except that she's into that freeper-spittle-flying-from-her-mouth zone. No other McCain signs on the street have disappeared.

9. Funny How That Happens Isn't It?
Amazing that their signs are free of vandalism. I guess that says something about the craziness of some McCain/Palin supporters.

4. Are you in Falls Church?
Same thing here. Lots of big McCain signs but plenty of Obama signs too (got my Veterans for Obama sign up and it hasn't been messed with). I hope the would-be sign grabbers see the Veterans part and realize that it means whoever lives in the house can probably shoot pretty well...

In two and a half weeks, they can have my yard sign, because I'll have a real president again.

5. No, Manassas
the Dale City area. I have been seeing more and more Obama bumper stickers and signs here lately. It's giving the Pubs in this area a run for their money, which is a good thing.

6. I share a house with my brother and we live in old historical neighborhood in...
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 09:35 AM by bleowheels
Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Last week, I noticed that the Obama sign, in the yard of the people across the street, was gone. We have an Obama sign and it was near the side walk. I made a suggestion that we should move our sign closer to our house. We have about 7 other signs but it is the Obama sign that I am most proud of and most concerned about. Yesterday, I arrived in Toronto for a five day stretch. Last evening, my brother had called me to relate the following story. My brother was getting a drink of water just before bed and he was walking from the kitchen in our dark house. Through the front windows he could see car lights of a car parked along our front boulevard. He turned on the porch light only to see a "college-aged" kid racing to the car, Obama sign in hand. The car then quickly sped away. My brother made a futile attempt to follow the car to no avail. Anothe Obama sign and another Theft.

I live in a red state. It is highly doubtful that Obama can win here, let alone be competitive. But It just makes my blood boil that these thieves cannot stand the idea that someone supports Obama. At night one could not even see that we had an Obama sign. Clearly, these thieves had seen our sign in the daytime. I try to so angry about it. I don't want to play into their satisfaction. We are going to get another sign. Obama just opened a Sioux Falls office a few weeks ago. He had an office here during the Primary season. But there were a surprising number of Obama signs here. Made my brother and I feel good. There are a few McCain signs here but my brother and I just laugh when we see them. But I wish I could talk to the thieves. I want to say, "Do you think that you will change my mind?" "Are you afraid of dissent." The funniest thing is that my brother and I already voted. We voted last week. And our signs are staying up. And my resolve is stronger than before. So I say to those thieves, "Eff You!!!" "If you steal more signs, you'll just pissed more people off." "And pissed people ARE NOT complacent people!" By the way, the new "Obama Biden" sign down the street is gone today too.

So all of you that have had your signs stolen, I now know exactly how you feel. We are angry and we are emboldened. We won't let them win and we cannot let them win.

8. Thinking of replacing my Obama yard sign
on Nov. 5, with one that says, "Congratulations President Obama!"

There are 6 houses with McCain signs on my street, we have the only Obama sign (though there are more Obama supporters on the street, they just don't have signs). It's an anomoly, because this is a fiercly liberal area (near Santa Cruz, CA); I think there's a guy working on the campaign on the street who handed them out. That's my best guess, because they all sprung up at the same time.

Meanwhile my lawn sports an Obama/Biden and a No on 8 sign.

Not sure what will happen with 8 (bastards), but I am very much looking forward to putting up a President Obama sign after he wins.

10. Good One
I wish that we could do that, but we were told by the HOA that after election day all political signs had to be removed.

12. I can't wait to have my own house
So i can put a bunch of signs up everywhere.
I actually am seeing a lot of Obama signs here in my college town, a place that I thought was pretty conservative, so it's pretty reassuring.

'Course, the sign I see (saw) every day on my way to class is mysteriously gone. :eyes:

I think I'll get a bunch of blank white T-Shirts and write on them about how i'm proud to be a voting liberal or some such thing to annoy all the conservatives on campus.

14. I just got my yard sign last week.
Strangely enough, I found it stuck in a yard afew houses up! :P

all kidding aside.. I have several, most homemade, that I have secretly stockpiled. They will be deployed the morning of election day to do a last ditch effort to remind people.. in my conservative brother's front yard. He sleeps till like 1000am at least... so most likely I will hear him cursing from my back porch.. can't wait.
