"Bush was abandoned by his party as he lurched to the left and toward socialism"
I have heard that more than a few times from the pundidiots and the likes of dog whistle voiced Jack The Thug Welch.

Here's the simple facts:

Bush has no ideology. He doesn't intentionally lurch to the left ...... or the right. That would require more Jack Daniels.

The economic melting has scared him to his core. He wanted to go out as Cesar Augustus. Instead, he goes out as Cesar Disgustus. Rather than calling his moves "lurching", it seems more like stumbling. Lurch would imply at least a modicum of purpose.

The honchos around him have been equally uncertain. Bernanke and Paulson are charter members of the Sans-A-Clue Club. To think they favor some socialistic tinges to their economic 'solutions' gives too much credit to them. They're just trying anything that gets suggested.

No ...... there's no ideology involved here. There's not even much in the way of purpose.

Just some ineffective stumblebums with too few good ideas and too much power hoping to play out the clock in a way that lets them come out better that Buchanan or Pierce or Nixon.

4. "Toward socialism"?
Isn't it all socialism to some degree? Any time a government, in any age, puts a gun to your head and demands your money on penalty of fine or jail time, and then redistributes it for other pre-determined purposes that are not necessarily yours, isn't that socialism? A part of the hypocrisy of conservatives is that they refuse to admit that all of it is socialism to some extent. We're all socialists.

The key, it seems to me, is to make sure the process is done for the wisest of purposes, that the money is invested efficiently and responsibly, as determined by the widest possible sample of public will.

8. Word
The difference between conservatives and liberals in this country is not small government vs. socialists, it's corporate socialists vs socialists in my opinion. I mean we as liberals aren't full socialists, but the ideology behind our ideas is left leaning obviously. You see conservatives favor corporatism where they bail out Wall St., and give subsidiaries to giant corporations along with tax cuts to the wealthiest. Like I always tell my wife, if the government is going to take an extra buck from me I'd rather they give it to the poor and needy. I'd rather have my tax money going to universal health care, alternative fuel research, infrastructure investment, etc. I don't want the anti-Robin Hood government where they steal from me, the poor, and give it to the rich.

5. So it looks like the true GOP base has all but ditched Bushco.
Sounds good to me. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. It also means the repugs are about to use him as their scapegoat-meaning no decent future legacy for him (which is better).
