The Last Eight Years Showed Us They’re Pricks When They Win
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 10:33 PM by 20score
The nineties showed us they’re pricks when they lose. They don’t understand dignity in losing. For them, governing and doing what’s right for the country will take a back seat to vindictiveness and revenge against non-existent crimes. It looks like they’re about to show us once more the difference between being a winning prick, and being a losing prick.

From 1992 through 2000 the Republicans, with the help of a media gone missing, threw everything they could think of at Bill Clinton and even managed an impeachment over minutia. They didn’t like to lose.

From 2001 through 2006 the Republicans controlled all three branches of government and spent that time challenging the sanity and patriotism of half the country. The House Republicans pulled tricks like having serious hearings put in basements; or in Sensenbrenner’s case, shutting off the microphones when he didn’t like what he heard during hearings on the Patriot Act. Even worse, a California Republican, Bill Thomas called the Capital police on Democrats caucusing, and tried to have them removed from the room. Now, the last two years the Senate Republicans set a record for filibusters. They weren’t happy with winning either.

Now through the false outrage - that is their stock in trade – about ACORN and minor or non-existent problems, they plan on making Obama’s presidency a non-stop orgy of bullshit.

This time we need to be ready for them, and fight back hard.

1. How?
If we fight back I can guarantee the same results as 1992-2000. Maybe President Obama will bring them on board in such a way that they feel part of the solution and won't feel compelled to act like the pigs they can be.

If they are invested in the process, they may not be as bad as they were.

3. I agree we should try to bring them into the process, but completely disagree
with the rest of what you said. When they pull the same crap as they did in the nineties, and they will, lying down is the worst thing we could do. If the Democrats had fought harder in the nineties, the impeachment wouldn't have happened. More, not less backbone is what's needed.

There is a big difference between vindictive attacks based on nothing and legitimate crimes; like the ones Bush committed.

8. They controlled the US House from 1995-2006.
We have to stop that from happening, again.

12. Certain of them can and should be brought into the process
The more reasonable ones, like Warner. But the ideologues who make up the vast majority of the GOP should be marginalized. They've proved themselves unwilling to operate in good faith.

15. Nope. You give them far more credit
than they deserve. The entire media is in the tank for the radical right wing anyway. The Republican lawmakers should be forced to act civil and only then be treated with dignity. Otherwise.............fuck 'em.

2. Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing
They talk a lot about freedom, but they really have no tolerance for opposing views.

They have no desire to find common ground with us. They want to win at any cost, and if they lose, it's already obvious they will question the legitimacy of the election from day one.

4. My Brother Was a ΣPE in College
Their motto was: "Obnoxious in victory, bitter in defeat." Must have been a Republican fraternity.

6. Step on their necks
They flew the Black Flag first, so now, no quarter is to be given them. Fight back on every issue, every bill, every vote. The god-botherers are already ramping themselves up into a spittle-flecked orgy of hatred; they will stop at nothing in their 'holy war' to control this government. They are a true threat to democracy, and must be undermined, marginalized, and neutered.

Republicans played hard-ball, screw you, you lost politics for so long, they forgot about that big wheel of fortune is always spinning. The permanent Republican majority was doomed to fail even as it was being implemented.

You want something for your district, Mr. Republican Backstabber? Tough. Maybe your district will wake up and vote your worthless ass out of office when they see you can't bring home the bacon. You can whine about the lack of bi-partisanship all you want, too late to make nice.

There is a sea change coming in the politics of this nation, and you can either ride the swell and survive, or fight it and go under. The demographics of this country are changing rather dramatically in the next twenty years, and this just may be the high point of the Republican Party.

We know their tactics, their lies, their allies, the false gods of money and privilege they hold so dear.
I hope they decide to fight.
It will only make their demise arrive quicker.

10. Flying a red flag meant "No quarter".
Black simply denoted you as a pirate. I agree with everything else you said.

7. Orgy of bullshit...I like that phrase
There was a similar thread last night but stating that they already have impeachment plans on the table for Obama if elected.

You are right; they are pricks whether winning or losing. Half their team has been taken down on corruption charges and we haven't even got to the hard core criminals among them, yet they yell "corruption" charges at the Democrats with their Acorn bullshit etc. I don't know if the Dems can ever play as heavy handed as they do, but they sure need to try or it will be a non-stop orgy of bullshit and Obama will be blamed.
