Obama Missed A Ton Of Opportunities Tonight IMHO. But It Doesn't Matter. He Still Won.

He was talking directly to the american people. He was talking with details about our problems and how to fix them. He had substance and for the most part the right tone. He seemed presidential and that you can have confidence in what he is saying.

McCain on the other hand attacked far too much especially about things that most undecideds right now couldn't give a rat's ass about. He had some good moments for sure, but his expressions, tone and lack of substance throughout much of the latter half of the debate overshadowed it. He did get some good shots in though, but not nearly enough to change the state of this race.

As far as Obama is concerned though, I thought he presented himself great tonight as it relates to the viewer being able to perceive him as someone able to handle being President. I was disappointed in his flatness at times though and thought he missed quite a few opportunities to pounce; not necessarily through attack, but through passion. He never really got passionate at all and I think if he would've, he would've hit a grandslam. That critique only goes so far though, because I'm still giddy as hell after seeing the huge difference in the instant polls. He went up, john went down, john's basically done.

But still, I wanted to see him hit a few more homers and when there were some great times to do just that, he remained too passive.

Wanna know one thing I had in my head that I wanted to hear him say firmly and passionately so badly? When McCain kept bringing up concerns of how Democrats tax and Obama's gonna tax and spend blah blah blah, I so badly wanted Obama to look in the camera and say firmly and passionately "We need to cast aside these old stereotypes. This is about change. I have talked to you tonight about my plans. As it relates to tax and spend policies that is nothing but an old and stale fear tactic. There might have been legitimate concerns about that many many elections ago. But not this time. Not this next 4 years, not THIS Democratic party. My Administration will cut your taxes. My administration will make sure you have health insurance. My administration will make sure we strengthen the economy and reverse the damage of the last 8 years. This will not be a tax and spend Democratic party. This will be an undo the damage of the last 8 years, rebuilding the economy, putting money back in your pockets, creating jobs, fixing healthcare, fixing our educational system, working hard for all of you who are crying out for help Democratic party, under my administration as your President".

I wanted to hear passionate messages from him like that. I know he has it in him. But still, he most definitely won tonight. McCain picked up points from his base for sure, but who cares? He might've won a few indys, but no doubt that Obama won more. And regardless of my babble in this OP I do sit here giddy at the becoming more confident thought that OBAMA'S GONNA WIN THIS THING! I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait!

Nov 4th can't come here quickly enough!

GOBAMA!!!

1. Calm, even, presidential. A known quantity and quality....According to the polls he is
EXACTLY right about the way he played this.

I personally would punch the shit out of gramps for the attacks but that's why I'm not running for president and Obama is.....

2. and Obama is the same Obama at each debate whereas Grumpy is trying to reinvent himself
and his campaign message everyday. What's the word i'm looking for, hmm, oh yes, erratic.

3. I pretty much agree with your take...
...I am bemused by those who see in Obama a charismatic type. I don't see him as that. I see him as a solid, somewhat sincere politician who is smart as a whip and at the top of his form, and possibly exactly what we need right now. But for those of us who were itching for that knockout punch, that's not what he's going to deliver. It's not how he rolls.

But like you, I am thrilled that whatever he is doing seems to be carrying the day. He's way too centrist for my own taste, but then, what I'd like to see has about a 0% chance of happening anyway. So given the choices we have in front of us, it's like night or day. You'd have to be crazy to vote for McCain IMO.

4. I know of at least one vote Obama won over tonight...
My eldest DD's SO is in his early 30's, has never been into politics or voting until this election my DD talked him into registering to vote because he likes Hillary and what he's seen her do as our senator even for areas most others forget. When Hillary lost.. he had lost interest... until tonight.

He came home from work at the beginning of the debate (they've just moved in with us courtesy of the economy) and he watched the first hour or so of the debate with my DH. After awhile turned to him and according to DH said.. "What the heck's wrong with that guy? You know, I wasn't going to vote in this election because I really wanted Hillary but this guy's really nuts and Obama sure is sounding level headed, confident and like he actually gives a shit about people like us."

So mark one more voting for Obama that wasn't going to vote at all. It may be in a blue state but the thing is that if he can be woken out of his apathy about voting after watching McCain's performance.. I'd be willing to bet there will be many others as well. :)

7. Thanks... It really gave me quite a bit more hope. McCain...
must have really gotten under his skin last night because he's always been an apathetic citizen and wasn't even registered to vote until this election season when my DD talked him into it.
