Possible lowest voter turnout in Canadian history
The blame? Bill c-31. CBC isn't getting it, CTV isn't getting it. This PERVERSION of our voting system of bringing photo ID is disgusting and the media did a PISS POOR job of bringing it to light.

2. Sorry, but if lazy assed people can't get off their spoiled, comfortable asses and vote, then.....
this is what we deserve.

Harper minority. Whoopee. :(

4. It's nothing to do with lazy
It's stupid voting rules that go against the constitution. SO many arrived at the polls not knowing they had to have photo ID and so were turned away. It's completely illegal

13. Photo ID
Don't Canadians leave home with their drivers'licence in their pocket? Other than to walk the dog.

16. What if you don't have a DL? What if you just moved and don't have ID with a new address?
What if you didn't know the new rules and got to the polls late without time to go back to get the proper ID? What if you live in a General Delivery area? What if you're homeless?

Nothing in life has guarantees attached to it.

23. That is the worst comparison ever. Two completely different things.
Did a piece of government legislation cause your truck to break down? How can you POSSIBLY treat the RIGHT TO VOTE so lightly?

24. did a government legislation make me forget my picture ID?
Not only do I have to keep the truck running but I have to remember my ID to vote, get food stamps
and just about everything I do that deals with the government. Same thing if they forget their ID.

21. No, not that. It's not turning up at all.....
I'm too busy to take 10 minutes out of my life to walk a few blocks to a school/church/community centre and putting a frigging "x" in a circle.

No time for lazy people. And they are.

:(

That's just what they want to hear. They're pushing hard for it in many states since the SCOTUS ruling.

What can we honestly do about this bullshit? I'm sick of it. How come changes in electoral processes ALWAYS seem to benefit the right wing pieces of shit?

I thought about making a stink, but I doubt yelling at some old people at the polling stations would change much. So what can we do? I think I'm going to start a blog...it might not do anything, but at least I can vent.

Edit: We also have to get ourselves some fucking proportional representation....how is it the greather the percentage of left wing people, the greater the chance of conservatives winning?

8. Great point. Not enough talk about this. I saw people being turned away at the polls today.
It's nutty that a low turnout, north and south of the border, tends to lead to conservative victories.

No coincidence, then, that right wingers tend to be the ones trying to make it more difficult for eligible citizens to vote.

19. The only photo ID I have now
Doesn't have my address on it....

I don't drive, my passport expired and 1) it's expensive as hell to replace and 2) with the new passport laws, it's also hugely time consuming and difficult to get a new one.

Lots of people don't have proper ID. I don't even have a bill with my name on it because all my bills are through the landlord, except the internet, which is in my room mates name.

20. In the UK, I have a driving licence AND passport, but no photo ID with my address on
UK (and so, I suppose, all EU, since they follow a standard pattern) passports do not have your address on them; and since I haven't moved house since they started putting photos on driving licences, my old one is still valid, though that does have my address. Combined, they get there, I suppose.
