Announcing the first-ever DU Halloween Costume and Pumpkin Carving Contest!

A couple weeks ago, DUer SemiCharmedQuark suggested that it might be fun to hold a DU Halloween Costume and Pumpkin Carving Contest. The DU Admins thought it was a great idea!

Here's how it's going to work:

I will pin a thread to the top of the General Discussion forum where members can post pictures of your Halloween Costumes and/or Carved Pumpkins.

In order to enter the contest, you need to post your pictures BEFORE Midnight November 1 (the day after Halloween). Photos must be posted in the appropriate thread, or else I might not see them, and might not enter them into the contest.

You can post pictures of yourself, your children, or your pets wearing Halloween costumes. Pumpkin pictures must be of pumpkins which you (or a family member) carved yourself.

Costumes and pumpkins do not need to be related to politics. But we will be giving special consideration to entries with political themes.

The DU Administrators will select "semi-finalists" in the costume and pumpkin categories. On Monday, November 3, we will post a poll of all the semi-finalists so voters can pick the best costume and the best pumpkin.

Winners will receive any item from the DU Store.

Happy Halloween!

(Please kick and recommend this thread so more DUers will see it.)

6. Since I'm not going to have time to do it...
...I hereby bequeath my "Hobo Investment Banker" costume idea to the DU masses: Tattered Armani suit, disintegrating black leather loafers, and a Louis Vuitton hobo bindle (complete with logo, of course.)

11. I once won a Halloween contest by dressing up as myself!
The prize was a lame screwdriver set.

I have a feeling this crowd will be a bit tougher...

12. Here's an "Obama Hope" carving pattern for folks to use...
For those of you who know how to carve 3-color pumpkins (meaning you either cut all the way through, just shave the skin off, or leave the pumpkin alone), here's an Obama Hope pattern I just created...

Here's the Mockup - meaning what it will look like once you carve it:

And here's the pattern you tape on your pumpkin (with tracing paper underneath, or using spray on glue, or with the pin cushion method):

The black means to cut-through the pumpkin, while the gray means to take the skin off.

If interested, more of my patterns are here: http://www.fantasypumpkins.com

14. Wonderful idea.
I hope the local Target store will let me try on a costume. I can't afford to purchase it. But I'd really like to take a photo in it.

The problem is, how do I sneak in a McCain sign? You have to see them together, the sign and costume. LOL.

:kick: for a great thread and idea!

19. I wouldn't dream to piss on this party Skinner but a PSA maybe if y'all will listen
If you are considering sending photos of your kids please only do so if they are wearing a full face mask or feature obscuring makeup. Maybe I'm overreacting but there are a lot of people monitoring this site and not all of them may be mentally stable. I wouldn't want to give anyone any clues to what my children might look like.
