Wow, I don’t recall ever seeing the kind of proliferation of political ads on broadcast TV as I have seen this so far this month. There are times you can watch a two hour block of local Twin Cities stations and see nothing but political ads--and sometimes the placement of these ads can prove amusing.
I had just awakened this morning and turned on the TV just in time to see the local Fox affiliate’s morning new program break for what turned out to be back-to-back-to-back-to-back political commercials. I hadn’t had my first cup o’ joe yet and was still groggy as I watched the first ad. It was an anti-Michelle Bachman ad that correctly pointed out that while she voted for tax breaks for big oil and millionaires, she voted against tax cuts for the middle class. At the end of the ad, an eerily familiar, Katherine Harris look-a-like flashed on the screen and said, “I’m Michelle Bachman, and I approved this message.”
ROTFLMAO! I swear my brain imploded! “Wow, this nutcase will do anything to get airtime,” I thought.
Of course, after my momentary WTF moment passed, I realized she was approving the following pro-Bachman ad, not the preceding anti-Bachman ad, but it provided a great chuckle to start my day.
