I have no idea what his work is about in that article, but it's still cool.

Congrats. :toast:

41. He was just interviewed
on CNBC this morning. It was a sort of funny interview. They were teasing him about how critical he was of Bush and Republicans in general. And then teasing him about how soft spoken he seemed on live television vs. his columns.

But he came across really well.

5. Dude knows what he's talking about.
Yes, some of his talk while on MSNBC and Maher's show have been a little sobering, but hey, it's real and true. His name is Krugman, not Pollyanna.

rational people knew neoliberalism was bullshit.

23. Friedman is a great thinker even if you and I don't particularly agree with him...
even if some of it is warmed over from von Mises. His book "Capitalism and Freedom" - a small book, is very much worth reading for how it defines the debate in our country on what government can/should do. Check it out - it's always good to throw their stuff back at them!

40. Great Thinker?
I find his theories awfully two dimensional. I don't find much depth in his ideas.

17. Our bailout didn't nationalize anything other than Fannie and Freddie
so the U.S. citizenry gets nothing but the bill. Krugman gave a bunch of good reasons why the bailout would be a disaster, then supported it. This is pathetic.

21. Follow today's developments
carefully. Paulsen will attempt to spin the partial nationalization before the sun sets or there will be no money from Europe.

26. What the heck are you talking about?
There's been no nationalization and Paulson plans to buy back the bad paper from foreign interests including some in Europe to get Goldman Sachs' and friends' fat out of the fire. We aren't expecting money from Europe, we're sending it there which must be why they are so grateful to Krugman. If you've got something I'm missing, line it out for me, please.

31. Economic and political reasons behind economic policy don't always mesh the same way over time.
That's why FDR advocated a balanced budget in his '32 campaign then dropped that sucker. the former opinion was economically sound at the time, the latter politically sound.

15. I can just hear Bill O'Reilly going on about this!
I recall in 2004 when both Paul Krugman and Bill O'Reilly were on CNBC's Tim Russert . O'Reilly let lose with his usual tirade of abuse and craziness.

From the debate between New York Times columnist Paul Krugman and FOX News Channel host Bill O'Reilly on August 7 edition of CNBC's Tim Russert:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200408080001

O'REILLY: And where'd you get that little evil quote , by the way? You don't listen to The Radio Factor.

KRUGMAN: No, but they have video clips. They have, they have the clips.

O'REILLY: Yeah, but who gave it to you?

KRUGMAN: Yeah, it is -- Media Matters.

O'REILLY: Media Matters! Oh, I see! A real objective website. Mr. Propaganda! --

KRUGMAN: Hey, wait a second, sir --

O'REILLY: You oughta take -- and do your own research, pal! And stop taking the left-wing garbage and throwing it out there for the folks!

KRUGMAN: What have they said that's false?

O'REILLY: Do your own research! That's out of context and you know it.

KRUGMAN: No, come on. It helps me. It is not. They've got the clips. You can actually listen to them --

O'REILLY: You are about the most un-objective person on the face of the earth -- Media Matters! Why don't you just call Fidel? Call him up in Havana. He'll tell you what's going on?

KRUGMAN: Oh, wonderful. Now we've got the great (inaudible) Whatever it is, it ends up being a Communist plot, you know?

O'REILLY: Oh my God! That's like me calling up some Klan operation. Why don't I call the Ku Klux Klan up and --

KRUGMAN: Here we go, here we go, here we go.

RUSSERT: Read the quote, read the quote.

<... Krugman reads the full text of O'Reilly's criticism of Moore ...>

KRUGMAN: Now I saw a film, a flawed film, a lot of things that were overstated, but I think that there were a lot of things in that film that showed that this is a guy who really does love his country. And he loves the working people of America. And if you can watch that --

O'REILLY: All right, fine. You want to think he loves his country, (inaudible). Hezbollah feels the same way that you do.

KRUGMAN: Oh, come on. Guilt by association.

O'REILLY: Come on what?!

KRUGMAN: Somebody picks it up -- somebody picks up -- you know there are, there are actual -- there are right-wing hate groups who like to quote you. Do you think that makes you guilty of everything that they do?

O'REILLY: You know what? I never call those right-wing hate groups up to get my quotes. You call the left-wing hate groups up to get your propaganda. You oughta be ashamed of yourself.

KRUGMAN: Somebody who runs a website (inaudible) compared to the Ku Klux Klan?

O'REILLY: Do your own research. Do your own research.

16. Payment for bringing liberals onboard for the cleaning out of the U.S. Treasury
to reimburse the world's ripped off financial houses? Thus sparing the EU from themselves having to deal with the costly problem. Right off the bat I can think of 5 more qualified candidates, with Nouriel Roubini at the top of the list.
